My name is Lee Munster and I am a freshman at Grant Community High School, I have been wrestling since I was seven years old. I have also been training in Judo since before I turned four years old. So far I have had successful careers in both Judo and wrestling. In Judo I have won numerous national and international tournaments and received many outstanding competitor awards. This year I have achieved my greatest wrestling accomplishment by winning the high school AA State Championship at 119 pounds.

In both sports I have traveled all over the county and experienced many things, I have trained to try to be the best, and I have thought about my future in both sports. These two sports, in a way, help the other. Judo, which many of you probably think is all kicking and punches, is actually not, it is a sport of throws, choke outs, and also submissions. Though, now as I am getting older and the competition is getting tougher, it is harder to dedicate myself to both sports and have success in both of them also. Last summer I had qualified for Fargo and attended the training camp but due to an injury I was barely able to drill during the camp and therefore was unable to go to Fargo and did not compete. While the injury prevented me from competing and practicing wrestling or judo it did allow me to weight lift and get stronger so that I could prepare for my freshman year of high school wrestling.

After having a very successful freshman year, as I had so hoped to have, I know that puts a lot of pressure on me to continue to succeed in the years to come. I have already started to train twice as hard as I did last year for the upcoming season hoping that this will allow me to have a good summer for freestyle and in the winter for folkstyle. I took a couple of weeks off right after state to let myself enjoy all the pleasures in life, which to me is mostly food and I already had more than my fair share of it after season; I am actually extremely excited to start the freestyle wrestling season, and to start weight lifting again.

Since this is my first blog entry, if any of you have questions or want to know more about any topic, please ask. I look forward to writing again soon.

Lee,
That was a wonderful blog! I knew this already but this definitely illustrates your intelligence as well as your athletic prowess!
You definitely look and sound like you're ready to step in and succeed along side the likes J Kennedy, M Benefiel, A White, et al.
Certainly gives the wrestling fans of the state of Illinois something to look forward to for the next few years!
Any thoughts on what your career aspirations are? I would ask what schools have shown an interest but it's a little early for that and you shouldn't be focusing there right now anyway.
Good luck and look forward to hearing from you again.

Who did you practice with at Grant?
What other facilities do you train at?
What style of wrestling do you like the most?
Do you have any idea what weight you want to go next year?
If you wrestled Tony Ramos again how do you think you would fare?

I know a lot of the people that view this page want to know what I weigh, so I will let you all know. The most I have weighed since folkstyle season has been over is just a little over 150, but now that I have started wrestling again my weight has lowered to about 144-148. Now I am starting to watch my weight again to get in shape for this summer's wrestling. What can I say, food it is my weakness! The people on my wrestling team at Grant can all tell you that I can easily eat a half gallon of icecream in thirty minutes or less or spend more than a few hours at a buffet.

Just to answer a few more questions that I have been asked: in the Grant wrestling room I worked out with Sammy Deligio for the first half of the season, and in the second half with Danny Deligio. As happens in most wrestling rooms you do not just wrestle with one person, so I would work out with all of the wrestlers in it at some point, but Sammy and Danny were my primary workout partners.

During the off-season (though there is no such thing) I train at Overtime School of Wrestling in Naperville.

My favorite style of wrestling would have to be freestyle, I like this the best because it is easier to score points and that makes the matches more exciting for me.

I have already grown a lot since the season has been over and it is near impossible to tell how much I will grow until next season. So I can't predict what weight I will go next year.

I feel that in the beginning of the season when I wrestled Tony I was not the same wrestler as many of you saw in state. Throughout the season I made many changes in my style of wrestling, many were on my takedowns, which Tony capitalized on my mistakes. If I were to wrestle him again with all of the adjustments that I had made throughout the season I feel that it would be a another very close match but I can't predict the results of a match I haven't wrestled. He has also made adjustments, as every wrestler does throughout the season which would make it a completely different match.

I want to wrestle in college, but that is three more years away and is not really on my mind yet.

Congrats on your State title. It has been fun watching you wrestle in Ikwf and now in HS. Good luck next year.
(Were former Wizards so we had the pleasure of seeing you wrestle a few times)

what do you look to do at freestyle state?
i know you came from a very long tourny at main south barring some tough competition, you seemed to handle it very well, no one seemed to even challenge you, im not sure if your bracket was finished, i dont think it was because i know i was looking forwards to u and coleman to wrestle again, or was he beaten? was he the only threat in that bracket?

Congratulations! My grade school age sons are in Judo and do some wrestling, but obviously not at your level. What moves (that are basically the same - except grips maybe - in both sports, ie uchi mata=whizzer throw in wrestling?) have you found worked well, helped you, or been able to pull-off in both Judo and Wrestling?

Great Job Lee, and good luck. I hope to see you in the state finals again next year, and years to come. I saw you at Freestyle state, you wrestle great. I'm Mario, one of the Maine South wrestlers.

Congrats on a big state win and a undefeated season!!!

Here are some of my questions:

1. Favorite move

2. Favorite thing to do when your not wrestling

And again, great job on your 2008-2009 season!

I know nobody's written on here in a while, but Lee you're an inspiring wrestler and sound like you're just as good off the mat as you are on it.

Just curious, what colleges are you considering?
