Are there any leagues in the CU area that start before 5th grade? We close on a house in Tolono this Thursday (from out of state) and would like to get our seven year old on a team if possible. I guess there is always soccer.

thnx

I can't believe all youth leagues don't start until 5th grade. When do some other leagues/towns around C-U start flag/tackle football?

thnx

check with the park district. Most of them in Northern IL start in kdg or 1st grade and then they move on to tackle in 3rd grade.

I am not sure about how it is by C/U, but over where I live, you can start youth football by, I'd say...atleast 1st grade, maybe even earlier.

Maybe you're not looking in the right places?

Yes --- there is flag football in C-U --- It is run through the YMCA --- All games are on Saturday mornings. Traditionally, tackle football has not started until the 5th grade in C-U, but the Central Illinois Youth Football League (CIYFL) is considering adding a 3rd/4th grade division of tackle football for the 2008 season. As far as tackle, there is a 5th/6th grade division and a 7th/8th grade division. The regular season for tackle begins 8/19/07 with games on Sundays at various fields around C-U and Rantoul. The pre-season scrimmage/jamboree is this Sunday --- all day --- in Rantoul at the U of I pre-season camp practice fields.
