Brandon Ward of Central pinned Brewer in the first period to win 171 at the Mahomet tourney. Mahomet and Central have a dual at Central on Thursday so that should be great rematch!!!

Ward is a LOAD at 171. Talk about a wrestler under the rankings "radar". If he was in one of the CCL schools you'd be hearing all about him.

any other kids open any eyes at this tourn? Saw Kratovil dominated along with Hwt. Letton. Is Letton that good, or was his bracket on the weaker side? Also at 140, who is this Young kid?? He had some victories that looked dominating, at least on paper.

Jon Young was a AA State Qualifier as a Freshman at 125 at the Normal West Sectional 2 years ago. He got hurt towards the end of last season and was not able to participate in the post season.

Letton is the #1 ranked heavy in the state in A wrestling, so id say he's that good...

Yea, saw he was ranked #1. Never seeing him wrestle, I'm sure he's great. I've checked what i could find on him, and he seems to pin everybody! Kinda like Goebal. I'm not comparing them, i know Goebal is a beast, i'm just curious if Letton, deserves to be mentioned with a guy like Goebal? I know Goebal was beat last weekend, so he's def beatable. I'm just wondering if Letton would be able to beat him too...they both seem to dominate in the same fashion!

Yes Ward is def. under the radar. I didn't get to see the match but im guessing Ward through Brewer straight to his back and stuck em. I did watch both of there semi-finals matches they both looked extremely impressive. Brewer seems a little bit more technical and listens to his coach extremly well. Ward is just a brute and pretty much beats people up and wears them down. They both have one major downfall though....they both have no gas in the tank when it comes to the 3rd period. Brewer was winning his match by 13 going into the 3rd and gave up 4 takedowns in the 3rd and only won by 6. Ward had a little bit of a tougher match but was still dominating til the third when he too gave up a couple takedowns and was almost stuck.

I'm sorry I don't agree with this, Goebel lost to the best in the nation. It is not like he lost to an average wrestler, Thompson is the real deal. Now I have not seen Letton wrestle, but can he dominate in tournaments like the Ironman, Dvorak, or the Cheesehead? I don't think there is anyone in the state that can keep up with Goebel.

Brewer only gave up 2 takedowns in the 3rd in the semis, but, yes he does run out a bit in the 3rd. The finals was not at all as you guessed. Andrew came out and took ward down 3 times (I am not certain), let him up twice and went to tip for back points, was off balance and was turned. Ward capitalized on Brewer's mistake.
