I would also like see the Novice modified to be ages 10-12 (all wrestlers in grades 5th-6th, 4th grade optional bump up), and Senior modified to be ages 12-14 *15 year olds can wrestle all year but are not elligible in the State Series* (all wrestlers in grades 7th-8th, 6th grade optional bump up).

isnt that how it already is???

Most of the 12yo 7th graders stay at the novice level, but they should be wrestling in the senior level.

A proposal was made to the IKWF board either last year or the year before to change the age divisions. It went somethinkg like this...

Senior division-7th and 8th graders.

Novice division-5th and 6th graders.

I believe it was voted DOWN by all the sectional directors.

Would like to know why you think this? A 12 year old is still just a 12 year old, no matter what grade he is in...

You have been around as long as me or longer why do I need to explain?

You take your average 12yo wrestler who is a 7th grader, he will be stronger and more physicaly developed than a 12yo who is a 6th grader (on average not always). What wrestler would not want 2 years in the senior division?

As for the so called "red shirt" wrestlers who cares thats the parents choice, I am talking getting the wrestlers best prepared for high school wrestling, this is an instructional league but that seems to be forgotten many times by many coaches and parents.

The only reason coaches/parents keep a 12yo who is a 7th grader at the novice level is give them a better chance to win state. We both know this and the other tricks of the trade. Paper champions are all well and good but if they can not find the same success in high school haven't we failed them as coaches?

As for the things voted on ..... passed or not passed ...... I will have to say the board does not most of the time vote the way it's members would like or wish, the voting method is flawed there for the board does not well represent its members on 95% of the issues within the state.

Some other state do infact have the coaches and parents of card holding members vote on issues that come up each year.

Also there should be a open meeting at the Kids Open and State since 80% of the IKWF charter teams are in attendance at these events.

We have an electional vote in the IKWF and not a public (member vote) vote, the sectional directors have a tendency to vote on issues how it betters their personal team and not their sectional, or IKWF as a whole.

Keeping a wrestler down at a lower level falls on what best suits a coaches personal team, and not the organization as a whole or 99% of the wrestlers in the long run come high school.

I will stop here for now ...... yes, I know I have a different way of looking at everything.
