So I was at the Central v. Mahomet meet tonight and I know Ward pinned Brewer and this was a highly anticipated rematch, but of course the Central coach doesnt let him wrestle Brewer...Anyone know why? He looked perfectly fine

stepped in what?

maybe the central coach thought the bump would help them in the dual i wouldnt consider it dodging

Probably for regional seeding purposes...Ward would be seeded above Brewer at this point.

I don't think it would matter much in their regional. Win or lose tonight, I gotta believe they're 1-2 seeds in the regional.

That being said, from what I know of Ward he's not / wouldn't be "dodging" anyone. CC's coach would have to give the reason.

I would agree with the seeding for regionals. Still disappointing. It wasn't for the team. 45-16 loss for Central. Ward didn't wrestle at all.

Being the first seed seems to be very important to someone. But you are right, in this regional, 1st or 2nd seed isn't likely to make a difference.

I know Brandon personally and know HE wouldnt choose to dodge anyone, but rather they are first or second seed they will both be in the finals at that weight, no one else will touch them but it was just disappointing

Match that never was! What a joke! Keep Ward out for seeding, I don't think so. If so, what a incredibly stupid idea. Look at the regional, they are one and two and no one will touch them so that is the finals. I really like Brandon but now Brewer will seek major revenge at regionals! Why not let the big dogs fight it out! Knowing Brandon and Brewer personally, neither one would ever back down from each other. Central Coach wasn't thinking clearly on this one and it is gonna cost Brandon!!!

What happened with Ingersol? Did Briggs really beat him??? Please..I know that didn't happen unless Ingersol got hurt???

Ingersol hurt his knee pretty bad and ended up leaving on crunches....As for brandon I know him also and I know he wouldn't choose to not wrestle brewer so that only leaves one other person to make that decision....and to say he didn't wrestle because of seeding purposes is total crap and in itself saying he would lose to brewer. That regional is one of the weakest ever and they will be in the finals regardless of what seed....seems to me like a shady move by the coach

I totally agree!

Brandon is a great wrestler and even though I am a Mahomet fan I think Brandon has what it takes to make a champion as I have watched him wrestle for many years and he is dedicated to the sport! The coaches should not have stopped this match tonight!

If it wasnt for seeding purposes, then its possible that Ward's coach didnt want the rematch yet. The more you wrestle a person , the more you can figure them out. Since these 2 will more than likely be wrestling in Regionals again in Sectionals, and possibly State, thats a lot of times to wrestle each other in a short amount of time. This is just my opinion and I as a fan would have loved to see the rematch also.

Why do I find it sooooo hard to stay out of this kind of talk?

I personally know how SMART Brewer is and he already has him figured out. Did anyone watch the match at the Invite?

I had thought of that reason too! I hope they BOTH make it to state and wrestle against each other for the championship. AS a Mahomet fan, I would want Brewer to win but I really like the dedication that Brandon has for the sport! He deserves it too!

Good luck to them both!

in response to msdogfan....I didn't actually see the match but from what I heard brewer came out and took him down a few times and was going for a tilt but got caught and headlocked....that seems like he has him figured out but made a small mistake and lost

Exactly TD29 - sometimes I read too much negativity into people's posts, but you understood what I was saying.

I guess, MSfan that the dedication to wrestling is not as possible when you are needed in other sports. I would never, ever want a kid to stop playing football to focus the off-season on wrestling. That likely comes from my small town attitude where we needed all of our athletes in all of the sports to be competitive.

Brandon also plays Varsity football for Central. Not taking anything away from Brewer because he is a Tri-Athlete for Mahomet. He is a very talented young man.

I was just trying to say that Brandon's off season experiences are to his advantage like being on Team Illinois and placing 6th in Greco National Championships.

If the kid wanted to wrestle Brewer, he would have. Central had no chance in the dual and Ward didn't bump up or wrestle anywhere in the lineup. Sounds like dodging to me, whether you guys think he would or not.

who's that

Brandon comes to practice and meets consistantly late and the coaches made an example out of him that night by not allowing him to wrestle. No one dodging anyone and the seeding excuse is stupid because they both are men among boys in the regional
