It’s finally here! The week of state. The most exciting time of the year for youth wrestling in Illinois.

"2...takedown"

The Biggest match in the state was held this weekend at the West Chicago Sectional final between Joey Uccardi(MFVE) and Andy Spangler(FV) and not one word has been mentioned about the match? Odd... The report on the match goes like this, Uccardi took down Spangler in the first period and then the boys "cut" each other and it ended 3-1.

The rest of the story...

It appears the sectional letter assignments for the State pairings were compromised at one of the sectional tournaments over the weekend. A certain powerful club was made aware early in the day of the sectional letter assignments. The letter assignment for the sectional tournaments should NEVER be released before the end of the tournament. Even if someone offers you that information, you should refuse it. I don’t think this issue is over. Let’s see, what’s that word I’m looking for...ahh, yes,...

INTEGRITY: firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values.

State brackets...here we go again

Doesn’t look like the state brackets will be posted on the IKWF web page anytime soon. And even if they are, they will be password protected. I don’t understand why the sectional directors feel like the brackets should be a secret, but I do understand the "system" we have with the IKWF. If you don’t like it...go to the IKWF board meeting and voice your dis-pleasure(is that a word?)./your opinion! Let your sectional director know how you feel. Email the entire IKWF board. Run for sectional director next year and try to make the change.

The brackets were done around 3:00pm Sunday. Clubs do have them. In fact, I have my son’s already:) And I did not get it from our club coach. It’s a secret that can’t hardly be kept. I truly think it takes a little something away from the sport when they are not posted for public viewing. I don’t have an IHSA wrestler yet, but I love looking at their brackets before the State tournament. The IHSA post them. The IESA post theirs. Why doesn’t the IKWF?

FYI: The bottom half of the Senior115 is brutal.

We also have the password, but no brackets. I am sure they will come in time.

BTW It dawned on me that there is a simple solution to the "bracket issue" that is already in place. I have been told, by the our friend Spartandog, that the reason brackets are not made public is because some coaches don't want their kids getting caught up in the hype of who they might wrestling and loose focus on practice and getting ready to wrestle. The brackets are available to be posted. Each club head coach is given a password to access them. Shouldn't we leave it up to the coach to decide whether to give out the password and to who? As a matter of fact, we all know Mike Urwin is over worked and under paid. Why mail or fax the brackets out to every club when they can be posted once and printed out by each club at their leisure and discretion? Seems like a total no brainer and the best way to statisfy everyone: less work for Mike; coaches that don't want the brackets distributed can control who gets the password; coaches that want them distributed can give out the password. Win.Win. Win.

The winner of that weight class will truly have earned it !

Congrats, by the way...
