hey everyone, ive got a good question or questions. Ive placed in middle school state, and even wrestled for an an awesome team, but what ive noticed, and of course i know duh, high school wrestling is so much harder. ive got 2 questions.
1. what kind of mindset should i have coming into everymatch, or mindset wrestling a ranked wrestler?
2. what are two solid takedowns that i could hit most the time? I prefer setups from an underhook, but what do "the best" use?

I know these could be hard questions, but I know the best could answer it, so any comments :) ? thanks ;)

I'm only going to comment on one of your questions. Mindset going into a good wrestler or ranked wrestler. First and foremost, I can't stress enough...rankings are for fun! I have fun doing them, and people have fun reading them. What really matters is who's on the podium in Champaign. Your mindset should be the same for every match. Whether you know the kid is better than you or not. Go out and give it your all each and every time and no matter the outcome of the match, if you know yourself that you wrestled to your capability...you won.

alright here's my shot at it. the way i think is that a ranked wrestler is just another person, an EQUAL human being. i figure no matter how good they are, they can't be so good that you can't contend. just keep at them, and maybe you will catch them in something. and for the other question, if you are a underhooker, then do what you are good at. i personally hate underhookers, because the wrestle on the defense rather than taking control of the match. but just do what you do best and you will be just fine. GOOD LUCK.

In my opinion, I think that the mindset going into each and every match, whether it be your oppenents first varsity match, or the best wrestler in the state, should be that you CAN beat him. Go into every match thinking your going to win. If part of the way through the match you feel like things aren't going the way you want them too, start trying to get your basics acomplished so that the mathc isn't a lost cause. It could be not getting pinned, not allowing back points, riding the guy out, or just getting an escape. Set goals for yourself early in a season, not to high that they are out of reach, but high enough that you will not reach them right away. Work every dau on reaching the goals and never expect more than the effort you put in. Second, the best wrestlers use the takedowns that they are most comfortable with. Find some sort odf. Whether its the high crotch, single, double, or sweep series. Use your tieups as a setup and not a stalling or leaning tool, both of these can hurt you if used the wrong way. Use your head as leverage, and learn the Russian tie and and arm drags, ankle picks. A good wrestler knows many moves and the counter to those moves. A great wrestler has perfected two takedowns, and escape, reversal, and a pinning combo, and you watch, they usually are nothing fancy. Some advice given from one wrestler to another, take it or leave it, but best of luck to ya.
