this doesnt make sense to me. How can a wrestler move down like 5 places when he hasnt lost a match yet? Ryan March of BR has not lost, yet a kid with 2 losses moves ahead of him? that makes no sense.

Well technically that kid (Plese) didn't "MOVE" ahead of Ryan March as the preseason ranking had Plese at #5 and March at #6... Never the less I agree with you on your point that March should be ahead of Plese!

In the same weight I am perplexed how a kid (Bokoski) that beats TWO 2008 state placewinners during the week moves down a spot in the rankings. At the same time he is jumped over by 3 kids because they placed 1,2,3 at Barrington that featured a total of 0 state placewinners in it.

Then again I am completely confused by the BCS system too!

I understand that the WWS may not be the best tournament and not have the best teams. I also understand that it is not comparable to the Conant or Barrington tournament when it comes to size of the tournament and competition, but at HWT Jim Norris, From Fremd HS, won the WWS tournament, and pinned the Hwt from West Aurora in 30 seconds in the Championchip match. Norris isn't either Honorable Mention or Ranked. I think that is very questionable.

At 189, you have Tom Davidson (RM) at #11 and Ben Brooks (OPRF) at HM. It should be the other way around.

Brooks beat Davidson Head-to-Head, and both lost to Kendall.

I would not sweat it. You have been in the sport to long. You know rankings are usually one persons opinions. I remember when I use to do the rankings, as much as I tried it was IMPOSSIBLE to know who beat who in ever weight class all over the whole state. IMPOSSIBLE to do it evry week. That is why Rob Sherrill is the best and most accurate rankings. He has a very large network of people giving him info.

Besides the real rankings are in Feb. Everything else is speculation.

We can only get the most accurate information for the rankings if every team particpates in providing detailed (individual and team) results from their dual meets. Talk to your coaches and strongly suggest they assign someone to provide that info to this website.

It isn't necessarily about winning tournaments, but who you beat. Marcos Hernandez (the West Aurora 285) was a JV guy last year without a varsity match until this season. He may turn out to be a good heavyweight, but it is too early to tell. A win over a JV guy from last year is not going to put anyone in the rankings. Rankings are for fun. They don't mean anything. It's a long season. If your guy deserves to be ranked, he will need to prove himself against much more established competition.

Check out the quotation posted on the AA board (http://illinoismatmen.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19469):

“You’re always so worried about how good the other guy is,” Zach said. “Who cares? You’ll find out when the match starts. Stop researching everything and just go out and wrestle.”

“You have to scout the opposition, moron,” Easton said. “You think you’re some kind of wrestling expert now?”

“That’s not scouting,” Zach said. “You’re always trying to decide who to be afraid of. It’s like you’re afraid to disturb the natural order of wrestling.”

“Natural order?” Easton said. “Are you drugged out or something?”

“Stop trying to decide who you’re allowed to beat,” Zach said. “Otherwise you’ll never beat anybody who’s any good. It’s common sense. Just get out there and kick somebody’s tail, stop worrying so much.”

(From a wrestling book) - People worried about rankings should read this.

Thanks Jaguar that was great and of course not surprised it came from the intelligent AA board. HAhahaha:D

It is true. You have so many athletes worried about the rankings but parents are just at fault too. It looks good on paper but when you actually do it than it is even better.

Accurate rankings aren't that important. They will become very accurate once everyone leaves Champaign.

Although, it would be nice to see the results of duals and tournaments.

Couldn't agree more.

However, there is a certain amount of pride for some of the lesser known kids and programs to have a opportunity to see themselves, some of their skilled teammates or their teams recognized on Matmen.

Everybody can't win a state medal so the recognition is good, however long it last.

Nothing to worry about I am sure Mr. Twister and Jaguar are coming out with a new book "Everything you need to know about getting ranked in AAA" a sequal to "Everything you need to know about getting ranked-NATIONALLY"

Will be a good stocking stuffer for the little ones

As his Dad, I thank-you for your comments. Personally not really concerned about not seeing him ranked. Flying under the radar is sometimes a good thing.

My understanding was that there were team points taken away from WN which actually caused them to lose by 1 to York.

Thanks, you know, I do not blame those doing the rankings at all. They do their best with the info they have. They probably don't know he placed 5th at the Frosh/Soph two years ago. He wrestled behind John LaPointe a 2 time State qualifier the last two years. He has beaten some very good wrestlers, Ochoa, Max Yep and others. Only time will tell. More tournaments to come.

I wasn't there, but spoke with a MS head coach that was. WN's' Hvy lost his match on a DQ because he got frustrated and punched his opponent in the head. 6 points to York. After the match was over it was determined that a DQ by a flagrant act costs the team 3 team points sooooooo. Actual score 27-25 Wheaton North. Score after Hvy loses temper (and the one that counts 25-24 York. Man I bet that kid is still running today. He's probably dropped to 171 by now.

Let's be honest, does it really matter? What is good about the rankings is that it lets us know what weight classes the guys are at, and gives us the results of what they've done.

That is the only thing that is important, and needed, you know Garringer was better than Olp(for that six minutes), so you do the math.
