I understand why tourney hosts do the 1/1/1 deal. And I especially understand why for the little kids. But, once the kids are at the novice/5th and 6th graders level on up, I think they should all be 1/1.5/1.5. After all, everybody's paying the same. (I could even see reasoning for the 1/1/1 kids to pay LESS). Many off-season tourneys go 1/1/1 until you reach the high school level. And that's the first thing I ask when inquiring about a tourney. If the periods are only 1/1/1 for my 7th grader, we don't go to these tourneys! Why should I pay the same to get 25% less mat time??? FYI, I've got a high school kid too, but if you tourney hosts want to make it worth my while to travel, I'm going to a tourney with longer match times. I understand I have a choice.
