I know last year they had over 800 kids from 14 states (if my memory is not failing me).

The event location is huge and you wrestle on full mats too...a majority of the people register the day of the event so there is no way to promote who will be there.

Teams in Missouri are competing together as Gateway Grappling. Last year they won 6 out of the 7 divisions and placed 3rd in the college division. They had almost 100 wrestlers registered, so far, I believe they have around 90 for this year.

It would be nice if teams in Illinois could get along long enough to do the same thing. Everyone should register as Team Illinois. Who cares where the awards end up as long as they stays here in Illinois.

Enjoyed the tournament this weekend. It seemed to go smoothly. A nice venue, too but man it was humid in there. After watching nothing but kids wrestling for the last 7 months it was good to see some of the bigger older guys go at it.

It was fun a had awesome competition for the most part. I was a little peeved at them calling 4 weights to a mat at once and having the kids stand around waiting so long. They could have been resting or getting mentally prepared. A lot of kids would walk awa from the mat since they were 12 matches ahead of them. Just a thought for next year. It was fun to watch the older guys though, we watched a lot of the college kids go at it to see some new stuff.

i agree there was great competition, imo the tournament was ran much better in 08, this year seemed more jumbled and confused, we had 2 kids in our bracket get misbracketed[sent winner to consi and loser to semi's} and they wrestled the wrong matches, they refused to correct the error and one kid was eliminated from the tournie after only one loss, it seemed as if the head table had no concern for doing the right thing and fixing the error, they just said it is what it is and since it wasnt caught before they walked off the matt they couldnt fix it? but later we were told by other parents they had the same thing happen and they rewrestled their matches? it didnt directly affect my wrestler, he was on the side of the bracket that was correct, but it did cost another wrestler his chance to wrestle. i would like to see them go back to keeping the age groups on the same matt all day and stop bouncing them all over the place like they did this year. we will be back next year, i just hope they go back to the system they used in 08 and scrap what they were using this weekend, to much confusion and kaos for me

I agree, it was much better last year. Also, does the lady on the mike have to repremand people nonstop throughout the day. Let the refs run their mat and just make your announcements.

I thought the lady was pretty rude and annoying all day as well. This was our first year there and enjoyed it. I agree on the issue of calling the kids to the mat too early. My son's bracket got called and he waited 45 minutes to wrestle. also, I would like it better if they assigned a bracket number to each bracket. It was difficult to hear them call the age group and then the weight class. It would be easier to remember and hear "Bracket 46 to mat 18". Over all I would give it an A-

I had to help run mat 8 which was mostly a kids mat. Id have to say that there are some very talented young wrestlers, and when they hit high school i believe that theyll be very deadly. One kids name was shavez somthing,he was only in 5th or 6th grade i believe. VERY fast for how old he is. I do believe i even learned a move or 2 from the younger kids. The lady is practically the voice of wrestling, and I agree they are a little uptight at that tournament. My coach made a good point that its not an official IHSA-IESA tournament because school isnt in, therefore the 30-45min rest time wasnt neccesary. also we had started to role up our 2 mats so we could get out of there and they flipped out on us because the apparently had a lot of kids left to wrestle. so we put them back down and for the next 45minutes we had no one come to our mats.quite aggravating

They usually post results inside of a week or so. I know that's not probably fast enough but at least they do wind up posting past years results. I spoke with the tournament director today and they were once again up compared to last year, I believe it was just over 900 participants...

I'll be happy to pass along any suggestions to the tournament director just pmail them to me. I see a couple posted here that I'll forward on...
