Ohio TofC Duals now up to 77 Teams

OHIO TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS TEAM DUALS - NOW UP TO 77 TEAMS


The Ohio Tournament of Champions is now up to 77 teams scheduled to compete in their 2nd TofC Duals competition on Sunday, April 25, at the Columbus Convention Center, in Downtown Columbus, OH. Participating teams will each receive five dual meets and will be placed into their pool based upon how their wrestlers do in the individual TofC on April 24.
Last year, the Duals attracted 42 teams and Tournament Director Bart Freidenberg said he thinks they will be closing out the team comeptition soon. "The Duals have really exploded with interest," he said. "At the rate we are adding teams, I would think that by mid November we will reach our limit, which will be somewhere between 96 and 108 teams."
According to Freidenberg, teams from 17 states have already signed up and several others have scheduled meetings coming up soon to decide. "Every time we send out a release, we tend to pick up another five to ten more teams.
"The success of the Duals should make our Individual Tournament as tough as it has ever been and should push our numbers up to more than 3000 wrestlers," said Freidenberg.
The cost to enter the individual tournament remains at $60 this year ($40 for additional wrestlers from the same immediate family), while the cost for the Duals has dropped to $600. As has been in the past, there will be no spectator admission charged to attend the TofC and no coaches floor passes will be required.
"The only new fee we are adding is that each team in the Duals will have to have a Coach with an AAU Coaches card ($14)," Freidenberg said. "That's being required to us by the AAU National Office."
Dual Meet Teams can be composed of one school or club, a few areas combined, league all star teams or even a statewide all star team. "We're going to have a unique concept in that the Teams will compete in duals against teams of equal strength, but will still place based upon the type of team compostion they have," he said.

Ages and weights for the Duals and the Individual Competition are as follows:

The Dual Meet Divisions to be contested will be:

1. High School Division: For those wrestlers born in the years 1991-1995* ( a wrestler born in 1996 may compete in this division and may be in middle school).

Weight classes for Divisions 1 will be: 100, 105, 110, 115, 120, 125, 130, 135, 142, 150, 160, 171, 189, 220, 285 (Team roster may have no more than 21 wrestlers)

2. Middle School Division: For those wrestlers born in 1995-1997 (wrestlers born in 1998 may compete in this division and may be in the 5th grade).

Weight classes for Division 2 will be: 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 110, 115, 120, 126, 133, 140, 150, 160, 180, 230 (Team roster may have no more than 24 wrestlers)

3. Elementary Division: For those wrestlers born in 1998-2005.

Weight classes for Divisions 3 will be: 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 110, 120, 140, 160 (Team roster may have no more than 24 wrestlers)

Age groups for the Individual Tournament, which will be based by year of birth, will be:

If interested in being on the waiting list, don't delay, as we would only be able to handle about 6 more per Division (at most) and we have already heard from some coaches that are still checking with their Wrestling Booster Clubs about coming.
