OHIO TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS - COLUMBUS CONVENTION CENTER - COLUMBUS, OH
Individual Tournament: April 24, 2010 Ohio TofC Team Duals: April 25, 2010
OHIO TOFC ADDS 16 MORE SPOTS FOR THEIR DUALS - 6 ALREADY SPOKEN FOR
After closing out their Team Duals at 96 teams, the Ohio Tournament of Champions found out this past weekend that they could indeed get a second hall for their Sunday duals. With that, they now have the ability to accept 16 additional teams. However, some of these spots have already been taken.
Tournament Director Bart Freidenberg expects the final spots to be snatched up pretty quickly. "Last week, when we announced that we had 81 teams and only 15 spots left, I had thought it would take a couple of weeks to fill up, but we had 14 of the 15 spots filled in less than 30 hours," he said.
"Based on that, I would think that most of these spots could be filled by the end of this week." Coaches interested in securing a spot should e-mail their team name and what Division(s) they wish to enter a team in (Elementary, Middle School or High School). "We do have a couple of teams that we are holding spots for that are supposed to get back to us by the end of this week," Freidenberg said. "Other than that, though, it will be first come first serve."
Spots that currently remain open include: Elementary: 5; Middle School: 2; High School: 3
To reserve your team's spot, you can contact Tournament Director Bart Freidenberg at bart@ohiotofc.com or at 614-833-5885. Additional information on the ages/weights can be found at www.ohiotofc.com
So far, the Duals have attracted teams representing 22 states. With the success of this year's Duals, numbers for the Individual TofC are expected to exceed 3000 competitors and could top the record 3500 of four years ago, as wrestlers competing in the Duals will also be competing in the individual compition as well.
"Our Duals will be unique in the fact that how a team's point getters do on Saturday will determine what pool their team gets placed into for Sunday's dual meets," said Freidenberg. "This way, each team will get five duals against team's that fared equally as well. Each team will still place based on the type of team they represent (large state, small state, super club, large club, community team)."
Entry fee for the Duals is $600, which, Freidenberg noted, is $50 less than last year's fee. Entry fee for the Individual TofC remains at $60 ($40 for each additional entry from the same immediate family). In addition, FREE TOURNAMENT ADMISSION FOR SPECTATORS will again be in place and there will be NO CHARGE for coaches floor passes.
