Man do i hate bad refs!!!!!! Iguess you could call that my pet peeve. I was at a tornement this year which was the dekalb tornement and i had a ref my very 1st match and i had a dekalb kid. it was the very end 4-2 and i was down then i hit a reversal and its 4-4 then in 3 seconds i got him on his back and the match was over. i new i won cause i shoulda gotten 2 back fall but the bad ref said it was still 4-4 and then my coach gets into this argument and i still have to go into over time. So i do and i really new i could still win so i shoot he goes to his butt and i have both legs and im working my way up to his head for the 2 point takedown......then things get ugly!!!!
the ref stops the match and i was sure i won but....he says the dekalb kid had control and got 2 pointseven though i was on top of him and i had his legs and he had a my arm. Ihated it everyone watching new i won even the dekalb kids i new tld me i won it was so stupid. So he says i lost and i inturn get 6th even though i could have gotten a high place!!!!!

In Words That You Can Understand How Long Do You Have To Have A Kid In Near Fall Situation Before You Can Score 2 Points. Waiting To Hear Your Answer.

Criteria for near fall is as follows:

At least 2 seconds - 2 points
At least 5 seconds - 3 points

The scoring scapulae (top half of back) must be within a 45-degree angle of the mat to earn any near fall points (paraphrased from NFHS Wrestling Rules Book, 2004-05 edition)

Just a clarification of Alvin's post. There are several positions that can meet near fall criteria: (1) any part of both shoulders or scaplulae (shoulder blades) are held within 4 inches of the mat, or (2) one shoulder or shoulder blade is on the mat and the other is held at an angle of 45 degrees or less with the mat, or (3) a the wrestler is held in a high bridge or on both elbows. I believe Alvin was just commenting on option 2 above, not every possible nearfall.

One thing to note, Smitty, is that you can only earn a nearfall when you are have control. You said you got a reversal then got a 3-second nearfall. But the reversal doesn't happen when you think it does; it happens when the ref is convinced you have taken control. So maybe the problem was that the ref didn't decide you had earned the reversal until there was less than 2 seconds left. I wasn't there, but that is one possible explanation. And I have no explanation at all about the takedown call.
