They would be wise to go to Bloomsburg and talk to Scott Owen. He would be a perfect fit at U of I. (That is - if he is out of the running for the NIU job, which everyone seems to assume)

Only one person comes to mind... Mr. Foot Sweep, none other then Illinois' own Matt Lackey... No need to list his wrestling accomplishments. He has done a great job at turning around the Lock Haven program.

This is true. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Lackey would be a good choice as well.

Really? Do you know this to be true? The dad of the NIU wrestler that gets out here on the boards occasionally sure feels it is done deal. I sure hope you're right that they are still considering. Nothing against Ludwig, but there are definitely other qualified coaches to at least consider.

Lets put it this way: the alumni aren't happy. We were told "no done deals, as of yet."

Good enough for me. At least you are being heard.

Focus people, focus.
Here is another topic on U of Illinois wrestling that has quickly veered off to some other subject. I'm starting to get the impression that general interest in Illini wrestling is pretty low. That thread that went to eight or more pages on Illinois basketball was very telling about the predominant interest of Illinois wrestling fans.
Although Matt Lackey or Scott Owen or Mike Poeta or whomever would be a great choice, a great program (or even those that would like to be "pretty good") should advertise nationally and consider all strong candidates.
I know everyone wants someone familiar and comfortable, but that all too often produces stagnation. Does stagnation sound familiar to Illinois fans? IMHO Illinois badly needs fresh blood in their coaching ranks, someone with a different prespective. I know much less about NIU, but it sounds as though fresh blood would be a welcomed change there as well.
Speaking of Illinois wrestling, I wonder if the coaching staff has contacted newly available Andrew Campolattano? Given that they have but one committed recruit for next year, the Illini should--in my amateur mind--be offering him a full ride for next year.
OK, let's go back to any topic except Illini wrestling.
