I was looking inthe state book from last year and I was wondering why the dual team championship was canceled in 1995. Does anyone know why.

Very touchy subject in Illinois wrestling. It was all about Mt. Carmel vs the IHSA. Mt Carmel was the 3x defending team state champs but had a serious challenger that year in Waubonsee Valley I believe. Mt Carmel participated in 5 duals that year, one with their J. V. that the IHSA counted as a varsity tournament. IHSA ruled that MC could not participate in team state. MC went to court and won. IHSA in turn said okay it's our tournament so we will cancel it I may of missed a few of the more sorid details but have no fear someone will come on here to clear it up and add to the story. Thre are many that hate MC for this reason alone. the current MC staff and team had nothing to do with that 1995 season yet sometimes they catch the rath.

I believe Twist means five tournaments, not five duals.:) You have the idea.

Mt. Carmel had 5 varsity tournament contracts; the one that got them in trouble was the Varsity/JV Joliet tournament. They sent a JV 1 & JV 2 team but they signed a Varsity/JV contract. The IHSA counted the contract against them and ruled they were ineligible as a team for Team State.
Mt. Carmel went to court and were granted temporary relief from the IHSA Ruling, meaning they could compete and the matter would be settled later. The IHSA then said they were canceling the entire tournament.

being a member of the waubonsie valley wrestling team in 95 all I can say is that it was a pity and a shame we never even had the chance to face carmel....I remember us being more mad at the IHSA than Carmel cause we felt that we could beat them. All I have to say is that is what happens when organizations such as the IHSA or NCAA leave, rules and bylaws open to what you call "interputation" all I have to say is make rules crystal clear so teams have no lead way at all in the court system. Thus a tradgedy like this never happens again
