What would this do for the central sectionals?? Pulled this from the AA board...
The Aurora Beacon news reported on Monday that the IHSA is considering revamping the wrestling mix to be a 50-50 split in class A and AA, given the fiasco of class A tournament this year. This way it would put 220 teams in each division.
It was part of an interview with Dyche, and at the very end it mentions they recieved an e-mail that the IHSA comittee was moving forward with the suggestions. Is this old news?

As I stated on the AA board, I heard that the proposal was a 67/33 percent split between the wrestling schools.
If that happens my figures have the cuttoff at 921 (using this years enrolment figures)
This moves the following to class A:
Rock Falls
Peoria (Manual)
Fairbury (Prairie Central)
Kankakee (McNamara)
Wood River (East Alton-W.R.)
Mt. Zion
Burlington (Central)
Marengo
[B] Canton
Sandwich
Rantoul
Elgin (St. Edward)
Rock Island (Alleman)
Quincy (Notre Dame)
Chicago (Bronzeville)
Chicago (Manley)
Bethalto (Civic Memorial)
Waterloo (H.S.)
Norridge (Ridgewood)
Mahomet (M.-Seymour)
Effingham (H.S.)
Johnsburg
Metamora
Mascoutah
Pontiac
Needless to say this would tear apart our central sectional. Watch more schools from the North to be coming down (Quad Cities) or (Joliet area)

Could we add in Mt Zion and Rantoul from the list above of potential lost schools for the Sectional? Rumor has it that Decatur also cut wrestling, so that leaves the Champaign regional down to 3 returning teams?
If so, what if IHSA:
-folded the Champaign regional
-rolled the remaining schools from there into Bloomington regional,
-bumped schools from B-Town to Peoria or to Minooka (basically, try
and fill out the 3 remaining regionals in the most efficient manner
possible)
-brings down Joliet regional to replace Champaign? I believe that
historically, this regional was in the Central sectional (through 1996,
maybe?)
If the 2:1, AA:A split does take place, the average # of teams in AA regionals probably decreases, so some of the lost teams can be absorbed that way as well.

The South losses a couple teams too. So I see the remaining Champaign schools, combining with Effingham, CHarleston, & Mattoon & going to the Southern Sectional.
Remember, the Quad Cities (moline, Rock Island, etc) use to come down to the central for about 4 years or so too. 1997-2000..

Hey wrestler21 what if they decide upon the 50/50 quota... have you done any figures on that?

Of Course I DiD!!;)
First of all I do not see this happening simply because this would require a complete overhaul of the State Series. If there are an even number of teams in A and AA then there will need to be an even number of Regionals, Sectionals, State Qualifiers, & State Placers for each Class. Doing this would require either reduction in the size of the AA tournament or an Increase in the Size of the A tournament or Both. Logistically, I think it would be too much work for the IHSA to get done. On the other had, by Dividing the schools 33/67% then we can keep the proportions in the state tournament the same as the current system.
Never the less here is the requested information:
If the breakdown was 50 % Class A and %50 AA the cutoff would be 1327 students
These teams would be added to the Class A tournament (based on last year's Enrollments)
BOLD are all the teams from the South and Central Sectionals

Wrestle21 what do you think the chaces of the 67/33 are of passing for next season? If it indeed goes through it will certainly cause a mix in our sectional // All Sectionals. Does everyone see this as strengthing it... same... or weaker? There are a couple of traditional strong programs who would be bumped down from the central area schools, & B-Mac had some guys coming back.

I really have no inside information on the passage of 33/67. I know the Wrestling Advisory Committee suggested it, but it must be passed by the High School Principals in Illinois. In talking to some Coaches this spring, some believe that it would not be passed by next season. Some stated that there might need to be a change in the IHSA constitution for this to happen - but I do not know anything about that.
I think this would obviously strengthen the Class A tournament. But more importantly, it would make the number of teams per regional/sectional the same whether in Class A or Double A. If AA has 2 times as many regionals, then they should have about 2 times as many schools (I think this just makes sense).
The real question is whether or not
