Tournaments are the SOLE revenue generator for MOST clubs. If you eliminate a lot of tournaments, you eliminate a lot of money that goes to the host club. I agree that there should be more duals, but not at the expense of tournaments.

In the few years that my son has wrestled, one thing that I have learned is that kids improve with mat time and good practice partners.
Duals can be a nice add-on experience but, in my opinion, clubs could not use as a viable replacement to tourneys.
Ex. If a club has an enrollment of 100 kids, a large number of these kids would not be selected to participate in a dual.
In my opinion, tourneys are the best way for all wrestlers to have an opportunity to wrestle.
Any thoughts on this?

I have always been a fan of wrestling events on Saturday but basketball limits the use of the gyms. Many have the dad works on Saturday argument, but let me tell you although many work they seem to make the time when junior gets to high school. After years of being involved with youth/high school wrestling in IL and other states, it is all the same; you make time when there is something that matters to you. With that said now for the dual and tourney issue.
The last time I remember the dual issue being brought up at an IKWF meeting it was ruled a no go since most the clubs would not want to pay the IKWF a fee to host the dual, like that which is required for the IKWF sancationed tourneys. I also dont see a point paying the IKWF $100 so you can have a dual or triange with other member teams. Duals should be allowed and not just done behind closed doors, and hope no one on the IKWF board or its directors find out.
I could see maybe a smaller fee like $10 (per team) if say 4 or more teams are to attend the dual on a Saturday. With the schools and the clubs being seprate I don't see many clubs hosting duals Monday-Thursday being that most the parents have a hard time getting the wrestlers to practice let alone get 2 teams to together on school nights.
I also would like to see the walk-over rule voted out again. Why? This idea would throw the wrestlers who may have meet into different sides of the bracket sheet. Meaning if they do meet again it will be for a medal. Also I would like to see the state tourney made double elimination, instead of the walk-behind advancement currently used. Many are have problems at State and do not wrestle well their first match, seen it happen at the youth and high school level. Since this is suppost to be a learning league I would think double elimination would be a no brainer. Plus I am not thinking team scores like many of the possible voting board and sectional directors maybe considered with voting this in to the by-laws and rules. Many forget the team awards are not the reason the IKWF State Series is run. It's how does this better the IKWF as a whole and not just how does this affect my wrestling team. Nothing against any of the Board or its Directors, I have talked to them all at one time or another over the years.
Other things of interest:
Make the State Duals an 16 Team bracket again unless there is more than 16 teams interested. A little INK would be nice by the marketing dept, on the State Duals, it's teams and there wrestlers, plus the break down of the team osters for the fans and its members. All teams must enter this to be allowed to particapate. So why is it a big deal to know who is entered for the Team Duals for this or that team? Plus we never seem to see a breakdown of the State Duals (ie. Jimmy Toothpick fall Sammy Fish 0:32), the box scores is nice but who cares once it's over. It's how they won that should be interesting to everyone to see.
This should be all on the IKWF SITE:
By-laws & rules.
Tournament sancation fees.
Deadlines.
IKWF history:
Past Grand Marsall's (Ron Silverstein Award, with a reminder of who he was)
Senior Division Outstanding Wrestler Award (Ron Urwin Award, with a reminder of who he was)
Novice Division Outstanding Wrestler Award (Marty Combs Award, with a reminder of who he was)

State Dual Meet Champs-Runner Up 1988-Present
State Dual Meet Team History
5-Time State Champs

Plus any more useful information that is normally mailed to the clubs, should also be on the IKWF site plus a little less of the useless stuff that seems to take the place of information that would be an interest to the IKWF members.
The rankings was fun a few years back but many could not deal with names being posted so that died off (too much time to do to have a few trash the a time consuming effert). But that does not belong on the IKWF website much like much of the stuff currently on the IKWF website.
The date of start of tournaments needs to start sooner with all the members and clubs in the IKWF now. Plus since the Winter Nationals is not run by the IKWF Board this should be the first day an IKWF sancationed event can be hosted. It does not fair to the 12,000 members to have an outside organization given rights to a date to host an event before and or not its' paying clubs and members that they should have the best interest for first and forth most above all else.
Yes, I know there is a chain of communication, but since most the clubs never attend an IKWF meeting, it should be host a few extra meetings of interest for its members (ie. Kids Open & State, both great times to hear from over 80% of the clubs)
That's all for now more to come later.
Thoughts?? Thoughts??
P.S. I am not a pro-IK'er like another mentioned, that's not a issue anyways, IW-IK is old news and best learned from and forgotten for the better of the state.

Good Post somethings that are of interest that i have never thought of... Saturday tournaments, there are tons of other places to host other than a high school (PRICE), If your team is a program ( FEEDER) for "USA" high School, have the tournament at the "USA" Middle School in the same town or the Recreation Center. Do Not get stuck at your High School for Options. Tons of affluent people are involved in youth wrestling maybe they have a BUILDING that has space. Their are tons of possibilities to get something done (Rockford had a tournament on a tuesday and it was a success),( Granite City took a Chance the day after Santa Claus came, I saw that it was a success but i was worried about the long drive otherwise we would have gone un-wrapping presents on the way and playing with the new toys that our children got ( without seatbelts in the mini-van), why not every Saturday, I'll SHOW UP WITH ANY WRESTLERS with parents that have time and money. Maybe have an option for those parents (dads that are laid off!) Take some ex-tra cash from the non-for-profit clubs to pay for some of the tournaments, if WRESTLER on the roster for that team.
More thoughts from Coach AJ (be nice)

Thanks for the input everybody. Hopefully, we can get more opinions on this as well. It is becoming a bigger debate among some of our parents.

   ;) :) :D :p
So with all the noise about the IHSA being slow in posting the bracket sheets, any chance the step-brother the IKWF will post the regional & sectional results as well as the State tournament bracket sheets for the parents/fans/coaches, etc.
How many others want to see the bracket sheets for the IKWF State by Monday after the sectionals are over. I am sure there are many who would be happy to put in the time to enter the data into Excel so Mike Urwin is not swamped with one more think to do in a very busy week.
 Coaches-Fan-Wrestlers-Parents let your Sectional Director know you want to see the bracket sheets, each member should have a vote in their sectional being allowed to see the bracket sheets should they choose to look and know what is to come in Rockford.

I think NIC9er suggestion is good. Hey, I'd still like some info. om WHERE the regionals & sectionals will be held.
I'm just a fan, don't have any kids in IKWF anymore, but I'd still like to follow it. The IKWF site said the regional/sectional info would be posted the week of 2-06, but I haven't found any info. on it yet.
If I can't find out where the tournaments are & thus can't see them, I'd at least like to know the results after the tourneys.
