admin
10-02-2006, 11:31 AM
Below you'll find our latest IHSA class AA pre-season rankings list (in no particular order). We need your input before we release our official pre-season high school rankings, which will rank the top 10 wrestlers at each weight. We've projected each wrestler's weight based on early feedback, last year's weight, and spring/summer weights. We will accept input via email, pmail, and message board replies through Friday. Special thanks to Jaguar for compiling this list.

Fixed. Keep the corrections coming. We are most concerned about weights and missing wrestlers.

At 103 you mean Joey Uccardi, not Ronnie right?

Any expectations for Jon Morrision at Carl Sandburg?

Don't forget Tommy Ambrose at Providence.

Seperate White of SR and Zimmerman of Sr. No way they are at the same weight. I would start with Zimmerman at 1140 and White at 152. that has to be close.

Ambrose is a freshman?

Twist, I had heard White would be at 145 again. It makes sense for Zimmerman to drop to 140 (if he can get there). Who would go 145 if Zimmerman drops and White bumps up?

Leinfelder was on the list before I was told that he moved to Neuqua. The Neuqua situation could be interesting. They have guys bunched up at those weights who are all good enough to start for most high schools. I don't know where it will all shake out. If you have any insight, let us know.

Why are these guys even on the list? They are good but probably are not a factor this year. 103 should be a pretty tough weight class with bj, nowry, morris, and roth.

Jaguar
10-02-2006, 04:07 PM
Spangelr and Ramos should not have been on the list last year by your thinking, and they were #1 & #2 in the State. They are listed for possible inclusion in the pre-season top ten. At this point, the jury is still out regarding who will end up there. Even then, the pres-season top ten is just an educated guess, even more than the in-season rankings. A year can make a big difference for some kids. The ones who put in the off-season wrestling and conditioning may just pass some of last year's studs who did not. Some kids mature. Some fade away. You should note that I did not include too many freshmen at any other weights, but 103 almost always has freshmen who place. Other weights do too, but not in the same numbers.

62 kilos, if you didn't keep up with ikwf or any national tournaments these wrestlers are the top around and should make a difference.
I'm sure all of the wrestlers have heard who they are.

Good Luck To All.

I still don't know the weights for Bolen and Rogers (OPRF). They may be 135-140 or 130-135lbs. I will let you know. Also, Ellis Coleman is now bigger than Lillashawn, so it may be Ellis at 125/119 or Lillashawn 112/119. Kowalczuk will definitely be at 285lbs.

Jordan Walsh is on the list, and, ummmmm.... ;) we will have to see where the chips fall at Montini. But, I think they will both be 285 pounders this year, and they are both worthy of mention on a pre-season ranking list.

Jaguar
10-04-2006, 08:27 AM
MSLWrestler, I agree those guys may all be hanging around to do some damage this year. The pre-season list was based on late season performance (Sectional qualifier with 25+ wins, State qualifier, State placer, high Fr/So State placer, etc.) There were a few other guys thrown in there based on past performance (Tolbert, Fitzenreider, Jahn, Kernats, etc.) The guys you mentioned have not quite made their mark yet, but they are certainly in the hunt. For instance, I saw Danny Fisher beat Caitlyn Chase at the Mustangs off-season tournament in March. Putnam and Morar were in tough sectional weights. Schell fell is very tough; I have seen him wrestle. I have added them to the list for now, but they may fall off when we have to come up with the top ten. then, it will be up to them to knock off the guys ahead of them and earn a spot.

at 125 Tom Anderson of reavis beat terrel webster of DLS in overtime at sectionals sendin anderson down state

I remember Anderson. He seemed pretty solid wrestling Webster. He lost to Morgan by fall in the sectional final but you can't count that because at the time Morgan was ranked second in the state at 125. What was impressive was he wrestled Webster well in the semi's when it counted, thus should be rewarded for being a State Qualifier.

Jaguar
10-04-2006, 03:04 PM
Anderson was on my original list that I had pared down. I put him back on the list, but keep in mind that only the top ten will ultimately be ranked. We have talked about starting with a "best of the rest", and it looks like we will do that, but I don't know how long we will keep it as the season goes on.

Please explain why Danny Hoffman should be listed. Who has he beaten? Make a case for him with facts to support it. If the rankers don't know him, an anonymous opinion is not going to count for much. Give us a reason to put him on the list.

Thank you for responding. What is Hall's first name? Year in school? Record from last year? Other notable wins? Losses?

I think Lucky Ferguson of Grant should be considered for the rankings he only lost to ramos by a point last year and he beat joey callen who is ranked and he also beat ben johnson who took 3rd at 135 last year and mike dace of grant will probably be at 160 not 171 he's a B.A.

I am familiar with Lucky. He has put in off season time and could have a break out year. He has come up short at the end of the season in the past, but I agree he is a person to watch. What weight will he be at? That might make a difference whether he gets into a top ten ranking or not. After that, it will be up to him to beat the people he needs to.

I think the Highland Park 112 will be tough. His name's danny something. Fisher maybe. He's fast. Also I saw Mickey Spiwak wrestle 112 (he was bigger last year) over the summer and beat some of the kids that are on the 112 list. I also saw Maldanado wrestle tough against Pousson at 119 losing 8-12. He's a freshman to watch.

His record last year was 32-7. He started off slow because of not many matches in the off season. He lost to hoy from wauconda, the third match of the year, but then defeated him at regionals. He also beat resendez from mchenry, and the heavyweight from stevenson. His big losses were against jack danilkowicz, and Jon bentch. He could not match their strength, but this past year he was in the weight room everyday for football. I believe he will be a tough competetor this year.
