The SIUE Athletic Task Force was established to consider three possibilities involving Intercollegiate Athletics at SIUE: strengthing the existing program, create a program that would compete at the Division I level or develop a hybrid that would have Division I and Division II teams. The Task Force has just released it preliminary report and is accepting public input.

Obviously, going Division I would increase financial resources for wrestling, increase the opportunity to recruit, and provide the opportunity for Illinois kids to stay at home and wrestle Division I. Not only would it help wrestling but it would also help SIUE and the area communities as well. There will be a series of public forums on campus in the coming weeks to allow for public input. You can provide input via email directly to Chancellor Vandegrift regarding taking Wrestling to Division I either under the complete plan or under the hybrid plan.

We need your help!!!!!! Email your support NOW to Chancellor Vandegrift at: vandegr@siue.edu. Thanks!!!!

SIUE is considering constructing a facility which will house a practice facility, weightroom, locker rooms, athletic offices and a competition area which will allow for 10 competition mats and seat 3000. It will be a state of the art facility built with private funds. The facility will also be a volleyball facility and house the SIUE women's volleyball team as well. Tentative plans are for the facility to be up and running by March of 2008. The SIUE Board of Trustees have given the go ahead to proceed to the next stage of the process.
