Wow...tournament looks stacked. Great opportunity for the IL boys to beat some ranked opponents. What are some matches to look forward to? Can't wait to see how NIU does out there. I see they have a lot of talent rolling around in their room right now. Anyone have any predictions/scoops??

It's a great tournament, and it's not uncommon that you'll be standing matside, look up and a John Smith or a Tom Brands is standing next to you. Just get a good night's sleep the night before if you're going because the finals can go as late as 11:30 or so.

Johnny Galloway looked very focused last week at the pointer open for NIU. Hope he makes the finals! Look for Pat Maclemore & Tristan Dishazer in the 20 and under to do exceptional. Castillo & Wienert will have to settle this 125 thing. Don't count out Greenhaw at 197 in the 20 & under tough guy lots of talent!

#2 Oklahoma State 5x straight NATIONAL CHAMPIONS

Not taking anything away from OSU or the tourny, however they have won 4 in a row and are going after # 5 this year.

What weight is Tristen? He is a good friend and one year (2005) he and Mario were on a crash course at the Brute -Adidas Nationals when one got injured and the other got disqualified. Maybe they will meet up next week.

Well that will be one to watch if those two hook up. Has Tristen wrestled in any opens yet? If so how has he done.

What are the odds of the loser bumping up to 133, can they beat the start there?

No, Chad Vandiver is there at 133 and is the starter. He has already beat Tristen twice.

That state of Illinos local know it all and self promoter of the Harvey twisters, Mr. Twister, reported some time ago on the illinois message board that AW was going to sign an early letter of intent to attend Iowa. It is well known that the kid lacks academic skills and when signing day came and went with no mention of the name this was a clear indication that something was shakey in the grades/sat department. U of I..no way too academic rigorous. i predict that AW does the JC route through Lassen with a redshirt year and tranfers out with his associates and three years of eligibility.

McCaffery....would you want that crazy ole man of his around your program?

This was from a thread on The Mat.com.. "Where do they end up, just for fun" Twist may have conveniently missed this thread...

Hmmm? someone else can read between the lines? Just wondering. Nice work Twist, other states are seeing through you too! I just caught it earlier! :D You never responded to Jimmy Watters or David Craig comments I made! You do know Jimmy Watters? (7th grade world beaters that you danced around...) Twist it baby!!!!!!:p

Uhh...Never said AW was signing with Iowa. Sorry! In fact I said that he was not going to sign early.

What does that mean?

It means that if you don't win the spot you got to wait your turn, right! As talented as Tristen is it seems he may have to wait for Chad to graduate or change weights. That is the wrestling pecking order at work.

We are underway. Some matches I have seen. This is post thru my cell so please excuse any typos. Danny Burk NIU looked great first match. Josh Terrell NIU won by fall at 157. Mario Morgan UNO won by fall and 18-3 second match. Nick Fanthorpe ISU is in tourney in California. Thomas Webster Iowa Central is injured. Mike Thorn Minn and Billy Murphy Iowa are up next at 133. If Morgan wins his next match he gets the winner. Mike Ryan NIU WON FIRST MATCH. Joe Williams NIU is coaching the middleweights. I saw J Robinson, John Smith, Mike Denny, and Tom Brands all huddle up. Imagine the conversation. That is a lot of wins. John Weinert NIU has Cody Garcia UNO National Champ at 125 next. Weinert hurt his knee in his previous match. Pat Castillo NIU and Jason Ness Minn should be a great match next.

Redshirt freshman Duke Burk (NIU) won the 184 pound elite division with an overtime win over Phil Keddy (Iowa). I'll post results from all the Illinois wrestlers once the complete brackets are up. The UNO website is down at the moment.

Just got back in town and have not seen any updates after twister started his original updates. How did the Illinois boys do? Congrats to Burke! I saw that, and NICE WORK! Good luck the rest of the year as well!
I heard earlier that Morgan had John Henslee after he lost to Murphy. That is nice that the Il boy's got to meet up. How did that go? Also, where there any other champs from the Il area or boy's that did well? I am sure I will find the updates, but this site has done so well with response, I don't usually need to see brackets! Thanks for the great site and the wonderful updates. :D

Henslee beat Morgan 4-2 neither one of them placed. Keske placed 5th I think at 149.

The brackets are up on the UNO site. Morgan and Henslee should meet again in two weeks at the University of Northern Iowa Open. Morgan wrestled like crap in that match but then again I am his harhest critic. I think the Murphy match took a lot out of him and he was still thinking about that when the Henslee match came. He wrestled great in that match with Murphy and almost pulled the upset of the tournament. Last week Murphy tech falled Gomez (Illinois) and it was 6-5 Morgan early in the third. He should of beat Murphy. I can't wait until he meets Murphy again. But take nothing away from Henslee. He had a good tournament, wrestled tough and got the call when he needed it against Morgan. Kaufman Brand is a very hard tournament, especially in the lower weights. Both Morgan and Henslee finished 3-2 and one match from placing.

Be proud of all of the Illinois kids. I could find a dog in the bunch. They represent well, even if they didn't place or if they did.

It was hard doing them updates from my phone and then my battery died. I should of brought my computer in (or went to Mario's room) but I saw the school was doing updates so...and drove back all night so I just got up. Sorry guys. I was tired. We will be doing a video show that will be up on this site by Wed. of all of the matches through theWrestlingRecap.com

Mr.Twister if Henslee beat Morgan in the wrestlebacks how were they both one match from placing?

You can place through the wrestlebacks. Actually Mario needed to win two and Henslee one. Henslee lost his next match which was the quarterfinals wrestlebacks. Morgan lost in the quartersfinals championship to Murphy which had he won that match he would of placed by being in the semifinals. They both were one match from placing, one in the championship round(Morgan) and one in the (Henslee) wrestlebacks. Henslee was already in the wrestlebacks when he beat Morgan. Morgan needed to win four to place (from the championship side)and 5 to win the bracket or place through the wrestleback. He won 3. Hope this is clearer or go to the UNO website and look at the brackets and you will understand.
