Pat Walker, Glenbard East 215
beat a very tough DJ Bruce, and from what
I heard went 3-0 in a Quad on Saturday.
Right now, he's the guy to beat in the upper weights.

For his defeat of Max Nowry at the Wheeling Tournament.

Jimmy Chase. He went into the Ironman unseeded, and came away with a third place finish. Including wins over Carson Bebee, Ryan Fields, and Travis Coffey.

Mikey Benefiel. He won a very tough iron man tournament and helped his team to place 4th.

I second the nomination for Jimmy Chase. He came in unseeded as a sophomore at one of the two toughest in-season national tournaments, and he beat third-seeded Ryan Fields of Lakota West (by technical fall), fifth-seeded Carson Beebe of Montini, 10th-seeded Luis Burgos of Caesar Rodney and second-seeded Travis Coffey, losing only to the top seed.

I was going to nominate Tony Ramos, but I think I agree with your pick of Chase in this instance...

Sorry, i gotta say benefiel. Sounds like jimmy chase had an outstading! tournament, but still finished 3rd. I understand he rose above and beyond what expectations were, but i've noticed that others said the seedings were pretty messed up. However, benefiel won the tourney. I see this award as an OW for the weekend, last i checked OW at any tourney isnt given to a non-champion. I would also like to add before people mistake this post that I am not taking anything away from Jimmy chase and congratulate him on his performance. Also congrats to montini and GBN, way to represent the praire state.

I too have to go with Pat Walker. His win over DJ Bruce was HUGE (you had to be there). Bruce was ranked #1 (with Fagiano @ 189) and is nationally ranked as well. Walker's win was convincing to say the least.

Jimmy Chase is no longer the giant killer. He's "King Kong". Jimmy (Unseeded at the Iron man) proved that point in no uncertain terms this weekend when he disected no less than (4) nationally ranked wrestlers on his way to a 3rd place finish at the Iron Man Tournament in Ohio, where he beat both the 2nd and 3rd seeded wrestlers in the tournament. Jimmy pulled the pants down and spanked some of the top ranked wrestlers in the nation and came up "just a little bit short" of beating the number one ranked wrestler in the nation. Jimmy has made the transition from unknown obscurity to "King Kong" in one short week. If Jimmy Chase isn't "Wrestler of the Week" I sure as hell don't know who should be.... this week or any week!!!!!!!!!

MONTINI Heavyweight Garrett Goebel (JR.) dominated in a weight class that included three nationally ranked wrestlers. His overall performance at the IRONMAN played a huge part in Montini's 4th place team finish.
Semi's - Goebel PINNED last years runner-up (Nationally ranked)
Finals- Beat St.Ed's Ben Kuhar (ranked 7th in nation) by a score of 7-0 !!

Dominated all opponents at the Prospect Tournament en route to the Wrestler of the tournament award. Recorded a 20 second fall over a pretty tough Maine South 103. For all the Nowry/Morrison disputers, i dont know if either can come close. It should be interesting...

Clearly the most dominant and impressive performance this year, let alone the week. hands down......destroyed Kuhar who is already got a full ride to Northwestern.

These two and Tony Ramos should all be on the ballot. They didn't wrtestle just 1 tough match but 5. Goebel going 7-0 in the finals is just plain strong.

The well known Billytickets, says: " Hvy Goebell is the real deal Becker and Kuhar are not close to goebel yet,Goebel could be best heavy in country.Ironically Ohio admin guy and myself both said it at teh exact same time( brillant minds think alike).peace" High praise indeed for a jr hvy. OF course Goebel can only wrestle who he did, but Chase did have better comptetion

I disagree. As far as I know there is no criteria for wrestler of the week. You can vote for whatever reason is important to you. Since we already have OW awards going to champions, I really like the idea of WRESTLER OF THE WEEK being earned for some other reason.
Years ago I saw a kid get elbowed in the face at the Dvorak. They finally stoped the blood, picked up the tooth that had been knocked out and the kid insisted on finishing the match (He won by the way.) He went strait to the hospital and got stitched up and then came back to wrestle again. That kid wasn't the champion that day but I sure would have voted for him for WotW.
Let's hope the WotW doesn't Just become another way to honor the kids that are already getting plenty of it.

Respectfully,
Mike
