Midlands Div I ranked wrestlers

It would be nice if Northwestern would publish a LIST of Div I participating schools. As best I can tell, below are participating Div I schools and ranked wrestlers (according Wrestling Report). Despite a weaker list of participants compared to past years, approximately one-third of those ranked in Wrestling Report’s top 30 are scheduled to wrestle. I have not attempted to include non-Div I or post-collegiate wrestlers.

One third of those ranked will be at midlands?

From your list, it looks like there are 20 names in bold, that's not 1/3rd is it?

My fault. I see the ILL wrestlers are the bolded ones in your list but the whole list is midland's participants, so your 30% number is dead on.

Thanks

All of those from his list will be at Midlands. The ones in bold are from Illinois colleges.

Biff, sorry I didn't explain more clearly. All too often I tend to over-explain what I'm doing and probably lose readers with a too-long-preface:( .

What I did was copy into a Word document Wrestling Report's last available ranking (30-deep) and then delete wrestlers from teams that, as best I could tell, were not participating at Midlands. For the Illinois Matmen site I set in bold wrestlers from Illinois colleges.

Just for fun I assigned standard tournament points for the guys on the list (16, 12, 10, 9, 7, 6, 4, 3 for 1st through 8th and 2 pts for any others) and then tallied up the totals. This can give a sense of who looks to be the favorite this year.

01 79 Iowa
02 77 Iowa State
03 69 Central Michigan
04 64 Indiana
04 64 Northwestern
06 54 Michigan State
07 45 Illinois
08 40 Harvard
09 37 Northern Iowa
10 29 American
11 27 Columbia
11 27 West Virginia
13 25 Northern Illinois
13 25 Purdue
15 17 Rider
16 12 Eastern Michigan
17 06 Eastern Illinois
17 06 Sacred Heart

It looks like a two- or three-team race, between Iowa & Iowa State and Central Michigan. I don't think that other teams have that combination of star fire power and breadth to challenge... but who knows? Illinois will have to have a great tournament in order to finish top-five. I see that Troy Tirapelle isn't seeded? Is he not wrestling? I see that Don Reynolds is seeded! I'm rooting for you, Don! Is there some way to have Hermione Granger put a "can't get hurt" spell on his legs?

With Michigan pulling out of the tournament, Midlands is certainly further weakened. I've gone the last four years and wrestlers from Lehigh (Letters), Hofstra (Skret, Masa), Penn (Valenti), Cornell (Manotti. Lee), and Ohio State (Rowlands) have helped to make the tournament more interesting. I sure wish that some/all of these teams were attending this year.

One sign of the weakened tournament is that three top seeds (not counting post collegian wrestlers) are FRESHmen. Just doesn't seem right.

Isn't Nick at 125 lbs.? If so, why wouldn't he be seeded at Midlands?
