Rob Sherrill, currently in his 23rd season publishing The Illinois Best Weekly statewide rankings, will maintain Illinois Matmen’s Class AA team and individual rankings charts for the rest of the 2006-07 season.

Sherrill has nearly 30 years experience covering the sport in Illinois. He got his start with the Star Newspapers chain in his native south suburbs, then became the Chicago Sun-Times wrestling beat writer in 1984. For more than a decade, he and Reid Hanley of the Chicago Tribune took wrestling coverage to unprecedented visibility in the city’s two daily newspapers. In 1996, Sherrill wrote the first book about Illinois wrestling, Mat Madness: 60 Glorious Years of Illinois High School Wrestling.

Sherrill also is the national high school editor for W.I.N. Magazine, maintains the magazine’s high school rankings and writes a high school blog that appears five days each week on the magazine’s Web site, www.win-magazine.com.

The new arrangement will not affect Sherrill’s publication, The Illinois Best Weekly, which will be published in its current form – including both Class AA and Class A team and individual rankings – and on its normal time schedule for the rest of the season. “Flashy” will continue to maintain Illinois Matmen’s Class A team and individual rankings.
