The Lincoln High School wrestling team placed fifth with 144.5 points to lead Pantagraph area entrants in the 16-team George Girardi-University High Invitational Saturday at Normal.

Normal Community placed seventh (126.5), GCMS eighth (107), U High 10th (61.5), Olympia 11th (49.5) and Pontiac 12th (40). Lincoln-Way won with 260.

The lone area champions were Austin Kull of NCHS at 189 pounds and Colten Unzicker of GCMS at 52. Kull decisioned Jeff White of Metamora in the final, 5-4, while Unzicker topped Nick Bullard of O’Fallon, 11-5.

Lincoln was led by a pair of runners-up in Brandon O’Connell (119) and Zach Mullins (140). The Railsplitters’ Fred Dorsey and Mikel Frost (285) each placed third.

U High runners-up were Joe Waropay (160) and John Munson (103). Colin Kirpatrick of GCMS took second at 135.

Other area third placers were Tyler Winland of NCHS (112) and Eric Kaufman of Olympia (145).

Area fourth placers were Tony Troemel of NCHS (130), Andrew Rogers of Lincoln (135), Tyler Flynn of GCMS (171) and Kyle Johnson of GCMS (189).

West 4th at Urbana

Normal West, led by a quartet of third placers, scored 117 points to place fourth in the 14-team Urbana Invitational where St. Joseph-Ogden won with 198.

Placing third for Normal West were Joe Hutchinson (130), Steve Ross (160), Matt Repplinger (171) and Jordan Flex (189).

Normal West fourth placers were Ryan Elam (215) and Christian Stevens (285).

Eureka 2nd at Amboy

Eureka scored 157.5 points to place second in the 10-team Amboy Tournament where the host school won with 175.

The Hornets had a pair of champions in Matt Schaidle (103) and Jeff Pruitt (125). Eureka runners-up were Cody Schumacher (112), Jesse Ruegsegger (119), Kyle Steffen (135) and Zach Wakid (171).

Eureka third-placers were Ben Smith (189) and Luke McLaughlin (285). Grant Cuffe of Eureka placed fourth at 160.

Home team 3rd at Mahomet

Mahomet-Seymour scored 166.5 points to place third in its own 16-team Bulldog Invitational, which was won by Marist with 221. Edwardsville took second with 189.5.

The Bulldogs were led by Tim Robberstad, who won the final at 145 by fall in 41 seconds against Andrew’s Nick Gasper.

Mahomet-Seymour runners-up were Lyle Shallenberger (125) and Andrew Brewer (160). Bulldog third placers were Brandon Harvey (103) and Jared Ernst (130) while Spencer Keigley (189) and Zach Ochs (285) each too fourth.

Medema 4th at Braidwood

Nick Medema placed fourth at 130 to lead Streator to 12th place in the 16-team Comet Classic at Braidwood.

Streator scored 32 points while El Paso-Gridley tallied 14 in 15th. Wilmington won with 256.
