This will be our 3rd year hosting this fun event for the Bantams. We have tried really hard to put on a fantastic day for the little guys. Even to the point of taking suggestions from the last 2 years. The tournament is DOUBLE ELIMINATION GUARANTEED, we moved the date to the week before Regionals because it was too hard for alot of people to get the wrestlers to the weigh-ins the day after Sectionals. Everyone loved the awards, which are EVEN BETTER. WWW.crostownwrestling.com (http://www.crostownwrestling.com)

I am confused, in the past it was the Illinois Bantam State tournament. Now it is the Illinois Bantam State OPEN. Why were the requirments dropped from this year? Last year you had to have a .500 record with at least 14(?) matches. Now last year my kid did not qualify and he was determined to do it this year. He asked me a couple of weeks ago if he qualified, I told him he would have to finish the season strong. Now I find out they dropped the requirments so now ANY kid can go. I just don't think it is right. These kids had something to shoot for, but now anyone can go. What does everyone else think of this?

It isn't a whole lot different than Midget State. I wouldn't worry about it to much. He will have to qualify through the regular State Series soon enough.
I think any 6, 7, or 8 year old that is worrying that anybody can get into a tournament instead of qualifing, probably has a dad that has the problem with it...jeesh, just let him wrestle and have fun! Are you going to tell him he doesn't have to finish strong since the tournament doesn't require qualification?
The bottom line, this is not an IKWF event, the officials can do anything they want. If you don't like their rules, don't go! Better yet, run your own state tourney with qualifications

Wow, I just asked for some opinions on the qualifications this year, and man you jumped down my throat. I was just bringing up some thing to talk about, not looking for an arguement. I just stated my opinion and in no way deserved that. I would like my kid to finish strong no matter what, but having something to shoot for just makes the deternined, more determined. I have been in the sport for many years, NO ONE has to tell me what it is about. Especially someone who is going to attack me personally. By the way "doc", I never said my kid was worrying about them dropping the requirements and this IS an IKWF sanctioned event.

I started the event, so the Bantams had a special day, regardless of record. The Bantam tournament is and has always been IKWF SANCTIONED, the IKWF doesn't recgonize this or midget state in their SERIES. Please understand this tournament is to make the Bantams feel special, and make them want to shoot for Midget State and then the IKWF State. We have had great wrestling but the only two requirements are that the wrestler is a bantam and that they reside in Illinois.
I hope everyone comes like they have before, it has been a wonderful event for some great kids and I think most of the parents.

All I wanted was to find out why. I wasn't looking for an arguement. Like you said it gives the kids something to shoot for, Bantam State, then Midget, then the State series. That is all I was trying to get at. Thank you.
I meant that it was not the "IKWF Bantam Chamiponships" not that it wasn't sanctioned. Simply stating since the IHSA wasn't running it, its your rules. As for qualifications, sorry takedown if it offended you, but your question was "does this bother anyone else, if it doesn't bother your son as you mentioned, then apparently it bothers you.

Just a day to let the little guys make some noise, have some fun and get BIG TROPHYS!
:D
Ask most the little guys and all they want is the BIG TROPHY and to know if they can have some more money to get something else to eat.
Round-robins do suck and these little guys almost never get tired so this is a great end of the year event to let the wrestlers see what the midget division will be like the next year. Plus not have to wrestle in a round-robin, these are a pain to explain to a 8 and under wrestler. But coach I won 2 times how come I got 3rd? AHHHHHHH! :o They do make me laugh and the WHY question is not allowed. But why but why! LOL
:p Smile :D
