This is Great!...I love how Bob Jones hits him for Unsportsmanlike conduct for his dance...that was classic!

One of the best in Illinois history...

Such a talent

Great bonus! Steve was always my favorite to watch of the Williams brothers.

I don't know if I would call that celebrating in style, but that was Steve.

That was a pretty good "dance" by Jones too

I heard the announcer mention Williams' freshman season and why he didn't go to state...what about his sophomore year?

don't you lose a year of eligibility going from public to private? this would explain his absence soph year... and did he go undefeated in hs?

Yeah Steve was something. His Freshman year he was tearing it up but came up ineligible after the Regional. I do not know why.
His next year was even more amazing in my mind. He was a 112 pounder and was ineligible all year until I believe the conference tournament. Once he became eligible, the coach told him that he would not bump an upper classman out of his spot at 112 or 119. Steve went 125 for the state series and won a sectional with 4 of the top 6, 125 pounders in the state. It was amazing. He then went to state and got beat his first match and was knocked out of the tourney.
So his junior year was his first state championship.
