Channahon Invitational: new location

This year's tournament will be held on Jan. 17th, 2009 at Minooka High School [ South Campus ]. This school just opened this fall and will be a great host to one of the best I.E.S.A. tournaments in the state! We will have most of the powerhouse teams back again this year. Mahomet Seymour,Bloomington,Normal Parkside,Normal Kingsley,Orion,Mt. Zion,Sandwich,Minooka,Channahon,Johnsburg,New Lenox,Darien,Homer,Troy,and newcomer Hadley Jr. High.

We plan on starting wrestling at 8:00am sharp and should be able to have the finals begin at 5:00pm. Last years tournament was loaded with 10 of the 19 state champions wrestling. I expect the same quality this year as close to 50 state qualifiers are back going at it again.

The gym will feature 4 mats with plenty of seating for everyone and a large cafeteria area for everyone to enjoy. Parking should not be an issue either as they have a couple of lots for cars.

Attention all schools: we are looking for 1 more team to round out our 16 team tournament. Please email me if your school is interested @ wstonitsch@csd17.org This is a high caliber tournament and would like to have only quality teams that are interested. We will be inviting all teams back next year that attend this year. There is a possibility that we can go to a 2 day tournament next year, now that we have moved the tournament to the high school. The tournament would be a 20 - 24 team tournament.

According to last years results, the Channahon tournament featured the following from the 2008 IESA State Tournament.

10 - State Champions
4 - 2nd Place Finishers
8 - 3rd Place Finishers
3 - 4th Place Finishers
2 - 5th Place Finishers
5 - 6th Place Finishers

32 of the 114 (28%) 2008 IESA State Medal winners wrestled at that Tournament.

Can someone show me a more competitive regular season tournament?
