Outstanding Coverage

I followed the Big Ten Tournament on www.theopenmat.com ("TOM") yesterday. The coverage was in the form of audio play by play, and a fast paced blog.

Both were outstanding. It was pretty amazing that they could cover 4 mats simultaneously and keep up with the action.

It is a shame that the Big Ten doesn't provide any video, particularly since web video has become so prevalent in the sport of wrestling. All that the Big Ten would need to do is partner with TOM or Flowwrestling, and get out of the way.

If you want a treat, tune into TOM and put on the Play by Play for the Big Ten finals this afternoon. Listen to TOM, and turn down the volume on your TV. You may like TOM's play by play better.

Thanks for the kind word Foxes and we appreciate you hanging out with us. We had a blast! Of course I don't have to tell you ....but if you followed our coverage it was a non-stop barrage of detailed info while the entertainment level was off the charts. Between Fleeger mentioning that David Taylor arrived at the arena on a Unicorn to the impromtu Kentucky Mudflap auctioneer play by play and special guest like Illinois's own Daniel Dennis the live audio broadcast was a home run!

Follow up

I took a moment and sent an email to www.bigtennetwork.com/wrestling

My biggest point was that they should provide video of the prelim rounds, even if only over the internet. I suggested that BTN could partner with Flowwrestling or The Open Mat for on air talent. The Illinois High School Athletic Association (IHSA) has used talent from this website for the Illinois individual and dual finals and it works great. Also I reminded them that webcasts of wrestling is becoming expected.

I also suggested that they go picture in picture for the 3rd and 5th place bouts -- or that those bouts could go in a webcast, too.

The BTN coverage that I saw was OK. So it was inappropriate to bash them on that . Not as good as what we get from TOM, of course.

I'll post on any reply that I get.
