Whitford commits to Michigan

According to Intermat:

Ben Whitford (St. Johns, Mich.), the nation's No. 2 junior, has given a verbal commitment to the University of Michigan.

Whitford won two state titles while at Marmion Academy, Ill., before transferring back to St. John's, Mich., for his junior season. As a sophomore, Whitford went 41-1 en route to a state championship at 130 pounds. His state title as a freshman came at 119 pounds.

Whitford has won double titles in Fargo the past two summers. He also recently captured a title at the Super 32 Challenge.

Michigan is going to be a heck of a team in a few years in landing 2 top recruits this season and next season with Massa and Whitford.

Congrats to Ben Witford!

Along with Massa and Witford, word on the street is, exBadger Andrew Howe will be attending Michigan after his olympic RS for his senior campaign. Rumor has it, he's a little behind on credit hours so the best option would be to take his available redshirt year following he olympic RS. Things are looking up for Michigan.

I would not be surprised to see Klimara at Michigan either.

I had heard that Howe was planning on finishing his career in the Maize and Blue also. In talking with MSU Assistant Coach Roger Chandler, the only way that Andrew Howe could use his last year of eligibility in Ann Arbor is if he graduates from Wisconsin first. (I take it that is what you meant when you say he is behind on credit hours). It is not surprising that the guys in East Lansing are looking over the Michigan shoulders. I'm sure that there will be several more programs in the Big Ten making sure that procedures are followed.
Michigan will get real good real fast. But it still doesn't mean that they will beat either U of Illinois or Northwestern in duals in the near future because both of those schools are elevating their game also.

The dominance of the Big Ten will be suffocating in a few years. The EIWA is their closest challenger and the Big 12 (only 3 in the near future) is but a shadow of it's once brilliant and utter domination.

I would be very surprised if Michigan DOESN'T pass up Illinois in the next few years.

Howe has been working out at Michigan all summer, and Michigan is bringing in some top recruites.
