i brought this up on the college forum as well, but does anyone know what happened to the siu-carbondale wrestling program? did it fall victim to title IX? it would be great if they could revive a program down there like siue is doing.

I know very little about SIUE but I don't think that they ever closed the program.

McKendree is one of the few new wrestling programs in the midwest. This is the 4th season for them. I talked to the head of the school and he said the only reason was that McKendree's enrollment was mostly female. They wanted to draw more males so they revamped the athletic programs which included adding a wrestling team.

There is a group of people trying to get some intrest going in restarting KU's (kansas university) Div. 1 wrestling team. Wrestling isn't a sport that makes any school money. Restarting a program that was canceled would be tough at any school. KU has a fairly serious wrestling club.

missouri teams canceled since 1972:
Missouri (11)
Lincoln
University of Missouri at St. Louis
Northwest Missouri State
St. Louis CC at Florisant Valley
St. Louis CC at Forest Park Campus
Southeast Missouri State
Southwest Missouri State
Missouri-Rolla
Washington
Wentworth Military Academy
William Jewell College

Illinois teams canceled since 1972:
Illinois (12)
Belleville Area College
Chicago State
Concordia University
DePaul
Illinois College
Illinois Institute of Tech
Illinois State
Lake Forest College
Lewis University
Monmouth College
Southern Ill.-Carbondale
Western Illinois

I'm currently a student at SIUC, and I can tell you that well have enough wreslters down here to start up a decent sized club. As far as setting up a competitive team... well, that's a whole 'nother leap, considering how we don't even have a club at the moment.
