From Southside Coach:

How about this.... lets take a poll....

Is it wrong to ask if a coach can take a team w/ previous wrestling experience and produce the same results with a team w/ no previous wrestling experience.

If this is an "inappropriate question" please let me know, but it seems like a valid question to me. How about anyone else, or am I being "disrespectful or taking shots".

Who ever said that these coaches could produce the SAME results?????
Not me. I simply do not think it is fair to question the abilities of coaches of good teams simply because they have talent. That talent has been built over the years through hard work and dedication. How good was Sandburg before Polz/Siebert???? How good was Montini before Bukovsky????? How good was Mt. Carmel before Weick??? Truly great coaches make great things happen.

Why are you dragging this old stuff back up? You didn't get it the first time. He was not questioning the abilities of anyone. He was making a statement about the challenges of taking kids who have no wrestling background before high school; no means to go to private school, or Overtime or Gilbert's Grappling; and none of the advantages that some of the top wrestling schools in the state have (with seasoned, skilled and ready kids coming into high school). We don't need to rehash this stuff.

but I remember two kids from Montini who never wrestled until freshman year and both placed in state their senior year. One took second and the other third. Both were very vlose to winning as well.

That says a lot about a program.

I don't doubt Montini did that, but I'm curious who those kids were?

This is very hard to do today with all the kids programs being so prevelant. Kading had a pretty good run in high school with no experience (did have a judo background), but the IKWF has become so big now that it has become a tremendous accomplishment. Just wondering did the Montini wrestlers accomplish this feat when they were in class A or AA? It is a great accomplishment either way it would just be a little harder to acheive this goal in AA. Especially if you happen to be one of the teams that was at the Downers Grove sectional. Tough to just get out of there.

Adam Enriquez who took 2nd and lost to Brad Owens from Mt Zion and Johhnny Carey who took third at 130 the same year. I think it was 98. \

Hmm, ha.

A kid from my school wrestled Johnny's brother maybe for the 3rd-4th match in 2002. Mike Cheesman and Pat Carey is who I am talking about.

Mike should've been in the finals, but drew Ruben before the finals, just throwing that out. :P

Jag- you know me...I'm always up for a good verbal fight. I didn't think this issue resolved itself before being locked.

I don't think we are rehasing, simply hashing.

Single-A Forum?

Those were the Single-A years. I'm pretty sure that most would agree that those two would have had stiffer competition moving through the Double-A field. Even making it to the Double-A state finals could be called into question.

It happens every year that there are wrestlers with only four years of experience who excel at the sport in the Double-A field, with some even placing. But this is rare, and I would gamble that Montini wouldn't be in the top spot with a handful of kids with only 4 years of experience.
