If you don't have the "no weapon or weapon look a like rules" then you run the risk of a kid brining a squirt gun that looks real.

For at least 20 years or more, there has been a law to ensure that toys do not look like guns in appearance or with the bright orange end.

The Chicago PD still uses this excuse when a child gets shot,"It looked like he had a gun". Yet Chicago is a gun free zone. So, why do kids get shot by police in Chicago? It's a gun-free zone, so that kid couldn,t have had a gun.Because gun laws are obeyed by the law-abiding not the law-breaking. That is why they will NEVER work.

I don't usually comment on these non-wrestling topics (because they can get pretty fierce back and forth) but a boy in my son's grade was EXPELLED from school because he brought a knife to school -- along with his birthday cake -- to cut the cake and serve it to his classmates...

He was taken away by the police and he is no longer welcome in the school district...

I can't believe what's going on in our world nowadays...

School boards pass policies and expect the students to abide by those policies. Failure to follow the written policy is due to a lack of respect and a lack of discipline. Actually, many people in Educational Psychology explain that a rule should never exist unless the administrators are willing to adhere to that policy. So, the answer is Yes! If the policy exists, then the students and parents should follow the policy.
I am usually overly-liberal but why have rules if you will not enforce them! Kids need to learn responsibility and accountability! I understand he couldn't hurt anyone with it. but what if a kid brought a "disabled" gun in? Is that ok? NO! The rule was in place and this kid broke it! GOOD FOR THE DISTRICT for sticking to their "GUNS!"....pun intended! Maybe the next kid that's thinking about bringing a "toy" to school will think twice. That's the point of rules and enforcement. They are supposed to eliminate behavior that is quesionable and/or harmful!

The kid is 9. The item was a Lego. There is no need to put " " around the word toy, its a toy. It more of a choking hazard than a weapon!

They have this new thing, it's called...COMMON SENSE. Obviously, no one at the school (or some on this thread) bothered to use it.

It has happened before

Obviously the "gun free zone" is working. The numbers may be going down, but there are still homocides with guns, and robberies at gun point in Chicago.

Normally I would start off by saying "You got to be kidding", but obviously you are not. What kind of knife was it? Like a Crocodile Dundee knife, or just your basic kitchen tableware knife?
Hauled away by the cops, and never heard from again, and I suppose in cuffs too.

Agreed, things are getting way out of hand with this crap.

Maybe it was a plastic knife.

What do they use in the school cafeteria? It's all finger foods right?

That explains this post then. Common sense, it's a beautiful thing.

I don.t understand your statement. If there are still violent crimes in Chicago after being a gun free zone for so long, how is it working?
Chicago has one of the highest crime rates per capita in the US.
It is the cities and states that support the second amendment that have the lowest violent crime rates in over thirty years.
Also Chicago is broke, they have no money to pay the bills, yet Daily is spending huge amounts of money to defend a lawsuit so he can keep his city ordinance (weapons ban) in place.Forcing city workers to stay home without pay, etc.Even the police(the regular guys, not the higher-ups who are appointed by da mayor) would like to see the ban dropped.

Do you believe bringing that toy to school was questionable or harmful? After all he is a 9 year old with a 2 inch plastic toy.
If he walked out of a store with a 2 cent piece of Bazzooka bubble gum, should he be arrested for shoplifting? Or if your wife was walking through the market and plucked a grape off the vine and ate it? Rules are rules.
