Joe Tholl Elite
Congratulations to all of the wrestlers that competed this weekend. To all that helped run the Joe Tholl Elite, 1st of all thanks for a very well ran tournament with top notch competition. With that out of the way, there's nothing wrong with trying to make a great event better. I have a suggestion for next year that may do away with the 1 or 2 gripes every year about a kid getting 6 matches at an elite tournament but not being allowed to wrestle a place match. After posting in the other Tholl thread I got an idea that would eliminate the match limit rule from coming into effect (we would probably have a lot more ideas and less problems if people tried to solve issues instead of just complaining about em). Go to a 16 man bracket limit and since the champs would only have 4 matches in the bracket, they could wrestle each other for the weight class championship and everyone stays under the match limit. So you would have multiple bracket champs, as well as multiple 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finishers, but only one weight class champ at each weight. Please discuss and share your thoughts.
If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. ![]() Last edited by PapaBearSLIM; 02-15-2011 at 03:51 PM. |

For the larger brackets, first round losers are eliminated. That will then start a seeding thread.

You could always go deeper in the seeding say top 8 or even 16 if you want to virtually guarantee that the no more than 6 match rule is not triggered. Not sure how the current seeding works, however you would have to make sure all kids are seeded, regardless if they provided seeding criteria or not. This could be done by committee of folks that know these kids. No guarantee that the 6 match rule will not come into play with this model, however I believe it would be an improvement. Progress not perfection. Definitely like the full mats! Another one could be put in by the concessions then we’ll be done an hour or more earlier. Just some thoughts.

How about not making someone who loses their first match wrestle half the bracket to get to third?
Wait until the semi's before creating your wrestleback bracket and use a 16/32 man style bracket. Only let the other 2 that lose in the semi's bye/"cut in" at the end.
