Benefiel to Elmhurst

Mikey Benefiel, long time Illinois standout has signed to wrestle his last year of collegiate eligibility at DIII powerhouse Elmhurst (IL) College for Coach Steve Marinetti. Benefiel, a multiple time IKWF and IHSA State Champion has wrestled for both Northwestern and Oklahoma State on the collegiate level. He joins Bluejay All Americans, Dalton Bullard and Joe Rau, making Elmhurst an immediate NCAA DIII title contender. Benefiel wrestled for Illinois top high school team, Montini Catholic during his prep career and was a force during the freestyle season for the National Champions, Team Illinois.

What happened in D1? Did he ever place in NCAA?

He seems like he has had a stormy career. His career has been shrouded in mystery. I hope he gets everything worked out and has a calmer life. At least he is still wrestling.

Did he get a medical redshirt one of those years? It seems like last season should have been his last year of eligibility.

I believe this past season was his fifth and final year of D1 eligibility. Since he only wrestled only three seasons he can still compete for one more year in D3, NAIA, and maybe D2

DII you have a total of 10 semesters.
