If you were in Champaign this weekend you

1. heard that next year reserved seating(No general admission?) will be sold starting in September of this year. I predict the price of tickets will jump at least 30%.

2. Probably paid to much for concessions. $3.00 for a 20 ounce bottled water..ouch!

3. Fell sleep during the introductions of the Grand Marshals of the march before the finals. Did that take forever or what. No disrespect to those guys as they have certainly earned their dues and were rewarded properly. I just wish it wouldn't take so long to go through their life story.

4. hopefully weren't staying at the Holiday Inn. Only 2 elevators, one of which kept breaking down and no convenient stairway in a 5 story hotel made for a lot of frustrated guests.

5. Had a good meal at Biaggis(on Neil) and Chevys. Was not disapointed. Alexanders however was a letdown.

6. probably thought they could make better use of the jumbotron scoreboards above the floor. How about a running results trailer so that fans could stay current on the brackets?

7. and despite all the other distractions and irritations saw some great wrestling! Congratulations to all who participated!

Other opinions and comments welcome!

Rooms for state

From those who went to the state tournament - did every hotel/motel in the Champaign area gouge customers with elevated prices for the weekend? I know many places required a minimum two night stay. Any bargain places at decent prices? Just interested for the future.

For future reference... they ALL raise their prices. They know that they will book every room no matter what the price is. If you make you reservation in Sept. or Oct. you might save a little money. It's a good idea to get the room early, you can always cancel if you end up not going.

cheap

$59.99 a night at the Country Inn reserved three weeks in advance. Hot tub, pool, continental breakfast, decent sized TV, two beds.

Stayed at extended stay at 115.00 this was highway robbery no pool,
no weight room, no continental breakfast with a T.V. that i believe
was maybe a 15 inch. Did have a small kitchenette very plain rooms,
were reserved three months in advance by team. No shampoo in the
showers a small thing but again for 115.00 dollars should had something.
Anyway what done is done but maybe i can do a good thing and save
somebody from this happening to them next year. Would have like a whirlpool
and weight room but mostly continental breakfast anyway for a 115.00
one would have been nice i think?

I paid way too much getting some coed drunk at Cam's but I should have only rented my hotel room for one night since I only made it their Friday night. Ouch, that itches, anybody have that special shampoo?

I agree about the grand marshall thing. The crowd started clapping to try and get the guy to read faster. A quick list of accomplishments would suffice. Its about the kids, right?

I was happy to see my high school coach honored as a Marshall, but the short story version would have been much better.

I paid $90+ a night at the Microtel - in the middle of nowhere, almost literally -and all they had left was a queen sized bed (which looked more like a double) with a mirrored head board. It wouldn't have been so bad, but I had one of the guys I coach with there and he's about 6'5" and 260. No shampoo, we came back to the room between sessions to rest and the bed wasn't made, we had no new towels, nothing. I talk to the lady at the front and she says "room service said you declined a clean room twice at 10 a.m.". I said, "unless you have very poor security in this place and are letting people in my room while I am gone, that's impossible. I was at Assembly Hall at 8 this morning and just came back now". She huffed and puffed and said she'd bring towels by and have someone make the beds. As I am walking off I notice that Microtel is awarded all sorts of accolades from JD Power about cutomer service. They could have fooled me.

Seating for next year is going to be... I forsee a lot of complaints with this. Supposedly, tickets are going to be $2 more expensive. I don't know how true that is, but we'll see.
