Some follow-up on the Gunther news.

It seems that Joey Gunther never wrestled IMAR, even though he spent two years in the Iowa lineup at 165. One year it looks like he was redshirting. Is that the case? He has beaten some pretty good wrestlers in Michigan State's Drew Hughes, Purdue's Dylan Lydy and Indiana's Devin Skatzka. He won a couple of matches at the Big Dance two years ago at 165.

I noticed that he split with the ILLINI's Carver James, but beat Iowa's Moody both times. He beat true ILLINI freshman David Riojas 6-1 in last year's dual in stupid Iowa City. Just for fun, I used wrestlestat.com to gauge a match between Gunther and Zach Braunagel. It came up with a 7-0 win for Gunther--though I haven't a clue what kind of metrics went into that.

I'm guessing he can go 165? He might have to beat out Carver James. That would give Riojas and Braunagel a sweet, sweet redshirt year. Still hoping that Xman returns to 174. If he can't, it looks like we're covered.

GO ILLINI!!!

P.S. Almost forgot: Working in a room with Hef, Poeta and IMAR has got to benefit Gunther's middleweight game.

The Hawkeye folks around are saying Gunther was losing his starting spot. Young is going to start at 157, Marinelli stays put at 165, and Kemerererer is going to jump all the way to 174. They think he'll be much more effective at 165 than 174, but they are Iowa fans, so what do they know?
