West Aurora wrestlers......

Was at the regional on Saturday, I REALLY underestimated the West Aurora wrestlers. Just wanted to send a big thumbs up to the program. I'm not from Aurora and have no affiliation with W. Aurora, but I must have picked 8 or 9 guys from Plainfield North to make the sectionals and all but four did....most of them being bested by a guy from W. Aurora. I mean I knew about Drendle and Venecia....but guys like QUintanilla, Pealstrom, Jacquez and Warren really made me sit up and take notice. Maybe I have been "living in a vaccum" down in Plainfield watching Minooka, Plainfield Central, Providence and Plainfield North (ok, North is nowhere on par with those other teams, but the kid goes there, so lay off)....

One complaint: It was made obvious to me that ANYONE wrestling a W. Aurora wrestler who has a lead on points in the match should automatically get called for "stalling".....It seems during EACH match a W.Aurora wrestler was in, their opponent "stalled" at one point during the match..........The cries of "TWO TWWWOO TWWWWOOOOOO!!!!!!" from Minooka fans has been replaced with shouts of "STALLLLLINGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!" from W. Aurora fans....one fan in particular (you know who you are).

Other than that....another well run Regional at W. Aurora. And some fine wrestling by the Blackhawks (if that's their name).....

ps-My predictions for 1st, 2nd and 3rd (in exact order) turned out to be 19 of 42, or 45%...YIKES.

West Aurora is always undersestimated it seems. They are having a down year, finishing 7th in the DVC, but they always come to wrestle. They are always pressing the action. They are in good shape. They don't back up. They don't play the edge. They are not defensive. Sometimes stalling calls will go your way when that how you wrestle.

I also know who you are taking about, but I did not notice that stalling was called any differently against any particular team. In the post season, stalling is called more aggressively, and always has been. It probably is not right. The refs ought to call it consistently all year, but that has been my observation.

I'm not kidding....it was EVERY match. Even when W.Aurora had a lead...."STALLLLING!!!!!" I heard that in my head as I drifted off to sleep Saturday night.

In other news: I walked past that Bain kid the 215 from Bolingbrook out by the concession stand.....GOOD GOD!!!! That kid's a sophomore???? Are you trying to tell me he is 16 years old???? Now, I'm not saying that there is any funny business with his birth date or anything....all I'm saying is that sophomore in HS looks like a grown man. Hate to run into that guy in a dark alley....yikes.

They look real good and very young. Good luck the remainder of the season.

Bain's genetics are sick. His brothers are all monsters. I was in the same dorm freshmen year of college as one of his older brothers who was on a football scholarship. The guy was jacked and he was a great athlete. If Bain can stay on track and focused, I predict he will be a two time state champ if he can remain at 215 next year, otherwise he is going to run into Allen next year at 285.

His brother Ryan was about 260 in 2005 when he won state and was undefeated 35-0. He went to Iowa on a football scholarship and had some troubles and transferred to Akron where he beefed up to 290 but struggled with injuries and an NCAA problem with an over the counter supplement.
