I'm all for this, my oldest would have done iesa if he was able to continue ikwf.

I think this will actually draw more kids from the ikwf to the iesa for their state championships.
May be good for both. Now if the wrestler that can't make Jr High team for state, they can wrestle IKWF, which will add numbers to the dwindling Sr Division at regionals! this is a win win if local school districts don't screw it up

I think this is a very good decision. I'm not sure there would be a great defection to the IKWF State Tournament. Most of these kids are with the IESA for a reason. Part of it is financial but a lot of it has to do with wanting to represent their school and participate with their classmates.

Heres where it gets even better. You may see more IKWF dual teams since you can recruit in your own town. Plus now the IESA studs can enter the occassional elite IKWF tounrament during the season. And the IESA kid that can't make a line up has some weekend competition.

Also will bump up IKWF membership rosters

Its a good thing for everyone, can't find many negatives

Exclamation

The only issue I see is that the iesa has a limit on number of matches and tournaments wrestled. My thought is that the is probably coming about because of the extra training which can be very valuable from what ive seen from alot of clubs

Couldn't agree with you more. It is by far the biggest problem with central Illinois Ikwf. Kids go and place or win the state tournament without the school breathing one word of it.

There will be a lot of kids that can't crack the starting IESA line up getting matches as well as some IESA studs sharpening their skills and seeking challenges in IKWF tournaments. I can envision a lot of good but not great IKWF kids opting for the IESA state series to get what they may think is a more realistic shot at a state medal and/or title.

The IKWF state duals just got more interesting as I'm sure their will be some rent-a-studs from the IESA in the mix.

The biggest advantage for all will be the the practices/training/additional partners available for kids in both the IESA/IKWF.

Now, with that said, the IHSAA is just like the IHSA, once in HS, you cannot participate outside of the sport parameter until the season is over. I don't see this changing at all.

I agree that the coaches probably like this rule, it keeps their kids under their umbrella until the season is over.
Hey is Indianapolis Stonybrook Jr HS still a power in wrestling? We used to kill everybody when I wrestled there.

both IESA and IKWF

so a kid could be on both the school IESA team and the IKWF club - that sounds great. The school team practices almost every night and has tourneys on weeknights and the IKWF club practices around 3 nights a week and has tourneys on weekends.

Now - the plan would be to put the school IESA team first - but to occasionally practice and go to tourneys with the IKWF club - based on how many matches and the competition he's getting with IESA.

Sounds like a good deal if it all works out.
