I'll cancel the appointment I didn't have with a news reporter.

If you examine the whole breadth of what they're doing... well, like you said, they are doing a great job rebuilding and looking to go places where no JCA wrestling team has gone before... cue the Star Trek theme...

You could argue it, but you would be wrong.

I'm sure a 2A coaches opinion is very very unbiased

I am pretty sure there was a year where Washington would have beaten Montini. It was the year Montini was pretty down and Washington was pretty up. Can't remember the year.

Well... anyone that feels so decidedly about one side of a potential argument ought to have a chance to elaborate on their feeling -- if only for the education of others.

In just a comparison of the 1A vs. 2A champs, we'd see:

106 Gregory EP vs. Hamiti JCA -- TioT pick: Hamiti
113 Keane Peo vs. Cardani Cent. -- Tiot pick: toss up, edge Keane
120 C. Johnson AC vs. H. Johnson BR -- TioT pick: toss up, edge Johnson
126 Villareal AC vs. Macias Burl -- TioT pick: toss up, edge Villareal
132 Van Vleet StillV vs. Haywood Blmgtn -- TioT pick: Haywood
138 Bianchini ICC vs. Palm Carmel -- Tiot pick: toss up, no edge
145 Hild Prta vs. Termini Burl -- TioT pick: Termini
152 Hart Anna vs. Connell MCC -- TioT pick: Toss up, no edge
160 Braunagel Althf vs. Cramer Gryslk -- TioT pick: Braunagel
170 Hoselton, Fairbury vs. Baker, Cahk -- Tiot pick: toss up, no edge
182 Braunagel Althf vs. Baldridge, Morris -- TioT pick: Braunagel
195 Hoselton, Fairbury vs. Kaminski Fenw -- TioT pick: Kaminsky
220 McPeek, Dakota vs. Luffman Urb -- TioT pick: Luffman
285 Kuehl, LW vs. Punke Wash -- TioT pick: Punke

So, in summary, I only see a few clear cut winners for 1A over 2A, however, there are at least three 1A winners who I believe even would have prevailed in 3A. There's at least one weight class where both 1A and 2A were markedly better than 3A. You haven't seen this that much in recent years but definitely true for last winter.

I looked at 2016 the first year Montini was success factor up and a lot would depend on the matchups but that was still a very strong lineup that would of come out on top.

The last two years the lineup has only gotten stronger.

Last year wouldn't of been close.

Actually good breakdown, but the big difference at 2A vs 1A is depth. I see ALOT of 1A placers who wouldn't make state in 2A. Now that could also be said with 2A kids to 3A...

I base my opinion on experience. Yes I coach at a 2A school. A 2A school that will be entering there 10th season of wrestling. A school that only rosters about 20 wrestlers. Approx. 75% of these wrestlers did not wrestle prior to H.S. Therefore we wrestle plenty of 1A schools. We also wrestle plenty of CPS schools. It kind of evens the playing field and gives the kids a chance of success while learning (to love) the sport. Based on these experiences I firmly believe 2A overall is tougher than 1A and that the gap is even larger between 2A and 3A. No big news here as that is how it is suppose to be.

question

In your opinion, when and why should a team choose to move up a class?

In my opinion, I would only do it if my team dominated the current class it was in. If we aren't consistently a state qualifying team, why move up?
