Why doesn't talent stay instate?

As an avid fan/follower of Illini wrestling, I've always wondered why can't the UofI recruit the instate talent? It gets old seeing Okie state, Iowa, Michigan, etc stealing our blue chip kids. Matter of fact, FLO just posted an article about the states with the most kids at the NCAA's and IL was #3 behind PA and OH. By the way, the state schools in those states, PSU and OSU are competing for a national championship. If the Illini didn't have Imar, they likely wouldn't be a top 25 team. Now if the Illini could keep talent instate along with having a solid Cali pipeline they'd be a top 5 team and potentially a title threat every year. So whats the deal? And does anyone have any insider information about what the current coaching staff is doing to change this trend?

Maybe if we could fill the Assembly Hall/State Farm Center/whatever it is called now for a big dual that would be a start.

Yes that's another thing...why is dual attendance so low? Just take a look at what Chris Bono has done at SDSU in regards to dual meet attendance...there's no excuse UofI isn't selling out Huff Hall.

Not to mention that admission is free, and I believe every dual this year there was a different free t-shirt. So there are at least efforts being made which is nice.

if you think the illini can fix their problems by just keeping our kids in state you obviously haven't been to champaign.

What do you mean? The facilities? The city itself?

I think fielding a consistent championship level team will improve local and student interest, which is greatly lacking at this time. If we could compete toe to toe with Penn State and Ohio State, I think you would see a great leap in attendance. In order to compete with PSU and OSU you have to keep your elite in-state kids, and get maybe 1 or 2 others from out of state.
