9 Random Thoughts

Okay, I can't wait for the high school/IKWF wrestling season to get here. It going be another solid and interesting down here. Here are some things that I can't wait for.

1. Granite City Holiday Tournament - Hats off to Coach Kirgan for adding Fort Zumwalt West and Oak Park River Forest to an already grueling field. I have a feeling this tournament could be harder than the Missouri 4A state tournament.

2. Southwestern Conference - This race could heat up this year and come down to the wire this year. Is O'Fallon or Collinsville ready to upset one of the conference heavyweights (Granite City or Edwardsville) this year.

3. Edwardsville - After last year so called rebuilding year, I can't wait to see Edwardsville this year. Edwardsville should have a loaded lineup this year. The question I have is, could this team be better than the team two years ago?

4. Granite City - I hate to hear people that Granite will struggle without Gregerson. Well, I believe Granite is still going be loaded and will surprise some people. People don't realize how great of coach is Coach Kirgan and Goerge Kirgan. Here is a little secret for everyone out there, Granite City still has a very solid freshmen class coming in.

5. CM - With a couple more solid freshmen coming in, could this be the surprise team this year.

6. Kyle Williams - Could he be the first Class AA state champion from the south since Terron Williams in 2005?

7. Keith Surber - Will he improve on his 5th place finish from last year at a heavier weight? Can he be a four time state placer?

8. Triad - I hear rumors that Triad beefed up their schedule this year and added a Chicagoland heavywieght to their schedule.

9. Sons of Thunder - Well, good-bye to the SOT! How will the IKWF community react when they have to feel the horns and hear the Thunder this year!

Will he? Can he? The question is how much higher will he place? You best break out that Surber shirt nice and early in the season.

This isn't really a thought but more of a question. But Does anybody know who the assistant coach at CM is going to be?

IHSA rules on Transfers?

There is a kid from Pennsylvania (Sam Brownlee) that lost a year of eligibility because the school he left protested that he did so just to for sports. (He is nationally ranked and a former national champ.) He had to sit out a year.

What is the IHSA’s rule on this???

P.S. rumor is that a mid weight state qualifier in So-Ill is changing teams this season????

It will be a tougher year for KSurb, but he'll do great as always...

I think Kyle Williams will win state and his brother Kent will place high after all his mat time this summer.

Who is this mid weight state qualifier and where is he changing to? Or do you not wish to share that information?
