SIUE and EIU

What kind of impact do you think SIUE will have on EIU and their decision to bring back wrestling?

Is EIU still considering to bring back the program? I know some great coaches that would love to take over the program and turn it into a respectable program.

We have way to much talent in Illinois to be sending IL high schoolers out of state to wrestle.

We're still waiting a final decision from President Perry about reinstatement. Our last update
was he will finalize his decision by the end of November. There's alot of people working
hard to reinstate so we are hoping for a positive decision.

I know there has been influence from SIUE and politicians into Perry so we'll see.

It would be great if this goes through. With the right coach, and some support from the administration EIU could be great. I know their isn't alot to do in Charleston, but with it being so close to U of I, I think they would be able to attract many of the states top wrestlers, if they recruited heavily...

EIU could easily be back with some of the better Illinois wrestlers on their team.. Its not just good for the college or good for wrestling but its great for the state in General! i really hope that they do bring back the program!

I can just see the coach's recruiting pitch: Hey, exciting Champaign is 50 miles away. Come to EIU. Between Champaign and Charleston, all the corn and soybean you'll ever need.

Now that will pull in the blue-chippers!

If they would get that place a great staff, and 9.9 scholarships, I would be able to recruit some great talent into that school.

Top 25 in 3 years.

They might get their program back, but 9.9 isn't happening anytime soon.

Top 25 in three years...

Sounds good to me.

Scholarships can be very seductive.

Yes they can. If you work the system, 9.9 can also go along way!!!! Look at Iowa, Minny, OSU.... They work the system...

It took J Robinson a lot longer than three years to build the Golden Gopher program. It's not like most colleges are willing just to give out the 9.9. Most division 1 programs are way under the 9.9. It took Dave Grant 6-7 years to get to that scholarship level. There is a great deal of politics involved in college athletics, and the need to play "the game" is of utmost importance. Ask any real college coach and he'll tell you that.
