I will give you the "biggies" here that I can remember. Anyone else that watched this afternoon, please help me out. I was doing laundry and playing with my kids so I don't have a lot of details. Here you go......

133 Mac Reiter got beat by Nick Fantorpe of Iowa State.
157 C.P. Schlatter got beat by Cyler Sanderson. Both were ranked but Schlatter was ranked higher and Cyler is just a Sophmore for Iowa State. He is going to be such a stud. This match decided the meet in my opinon.
Minnesota could have won the meet if their heavy weight had pullled it out but he got beat by Iowa State's HW who was also ranked. Minnesota's heavy is just a freshman and could be good with time.

I thought it was a great meet to watch. (Thank you Big 10 Network) I was hoping that Minnesota would pull it out but it didn't happen. Iowa State was impressive. They have such a young team. What a power house they will be for years to come.

[I'm sure there will be some bad mistyped stuff below, but I'm too tired to edit and need to get some work-work done before Monday morning.]

I went to the Minn-ISU dual today. It wasn't the most exciting dual I've ever seen, but it was well wrestled. Oddly enough, I don't think there was a single back point i the dual, and nothing even close to a count. Mike Allen as always did a nice job as referee.

Overall, ISU wrestled a smart match, kept in very good condition, frustrated the Gophers at times, but made their shots count. I would say that the Gophers seemed to lack spart today (except for Ness and hwt Bernhow, who wrestled with as much spark as any of the Gophers).

Just a few comments:

125 Ness looked good again. Kist slowed him down just enough and managed not to get turned with Ness' half.

133 Fanthorpe kept Reiter at bay, and managed a third period reversal that made the difference. Reiter made some good shot attemps in the first period, but after that seemed to lack spark.

141 Rivera likewise wasn't his usual perpetual motion, but was too much for Gallick.

149 Dustin got a few takedowns, but for the most part was super careful about his shot selection. Although Meuller is no slouch, it seems that if Dustin got a little wild, he could have picked up another four takedowns, even at the risk of giving up one takedown. In the end he didn't score bonus points.

157 I watched CP last weekend, where he was aggressive. Against Cyler, he was ultracareful. In the final period, when he was down by a point, he couldn't even get off one shot. I'm a little confused here-- don't wrestlers drill "you have 15 seconds to get a takedown! Go!!!" CP had nothing. Cyler wrestled smart and won.

165 Whoever has been posting that Reader is good, wasn't kidding. He was an animal. Again, Glasser, though not terribly experienced at this level, is good, but Reader just dominated him. Had something like 3 minutes of riding time and was on the verge of turning Glasser. Wow.

174 Dretsch was too much for Scott.

184 Kish, like some of his teammates, couldn't make something happen when he needed to.

197 I don't know why the Minnesota coaches had Bronson choose down. He had successfully ridden Bertolino and nearly turned him. I'm not an expert, but down by 3 or 4, I thought Bronson's best bet was to choose up, throw in legs (he's good at it), and try for a turn. [Patrick Bond, if you're listening, DON'T stay underneath Bronson.] Bertolino is much bigger than I've seen him before. Hhe mostly looked good.

Hwt Zabriskie was a little too athletic and seasoned for the freshman Berhow. But give Berhow credit for trying to make things happened. He almost succeeded on several occasions. For a high ranked wrestler, Zabriskie didn't look too good.

This is not the same wrestler that won the Big Ten by a fall his freshman year. He was ridden hard at the All Star match and again by Fanthorpe. He can't get out from the bottom. Perhaps it is the result of his ACL repair. Unless he gets it going, he will not be on the stand at the NCAA.

Re Reiter. I agree, he seems to lack a spark that he had his first two years.

I was talking with guy next to me at the dual (I'm pretty sure he was a high school or youth coach) and we were discussing that by the time these guys are seniors, they've been wrestling for five years in college rooms. For some of them, their bodies are starting to wear out a bit. Not necessarily a major injury, but the sum of all that brawling. Also, with some of them, I'm sure that they are a little less successful because their tendencies are so well known. I always thought that that was part of Alex Tirapelle's story his last two years: his first two years, he seemed to get ankle picks left-and-right and plenty or cradles; his last two years I saw far fewer of these, and I think that part of it was that the opponents were waiting for his ankle pick.

Tough competition.
