Is Montini at it again?

I heard a rumor that Steve Robertson from Niles West will be at Montini next year. Until it happens it is only a rumor but it is most likely true based on my source.

When will the IHSA crack down on all the recruiting?

Recruiting??? Are you saying that Robertson was illegally recruited?

If the rumor is true (and I hope it is), I am sure the Robertson family made a decision that was in their best interest. Tough for the IHSA to crack down on a family trying to improve their situation.

Niles west is an outstanding schools and he took second in state as a Freshman. No need for a change.

Yes if it turns out to be true I would say he was illegally recruited like everyone else who ends up there.

They are not the only school doing it, but the IHSA needs to put a stop to it.

It was one thing when incoming freshmen from other areas went there as freshmen, but now they are recruiting established wrestlers.

For example Saunders from Geneva (only one brother at a time, must not have been able to pay the tuition for both at once) 103 lb from Lake Zurich and now Robertson.

They get many to transfer in but they must be legit because onlyONE of those kids did not wrestle(dix, at least that is what I have been told). I dont have a problem if they move and go there but when they dont move and change guardian ship or whatever else they do then I think it becomes an issue. I am all for kids that want to better their situation but the families need to move.

It's not Montini that is the problem it is the way the rules are written and they have found loop holes in those rules.

How does this improve their situation? I guess you would have to ask the Robertson family that. Do you honestly think they would make a move if they didn't think they were bettering themselves? Maybe he hates Niles West. Maybe he hates the teachers. Maybe they hate their house. Maybe the Dad/Mom changed jobs. Right now this is all rumor and speculation.
Whatever the Robertson's choose to do, it really shouldn't be of any concern to you, me, or anyone else for that matter.

I personally am offended that there are people that think that the rest of us are stupid enough to believe that there was no "recruiting" of any kind in some way shape or form. Fine, if you don't want to call it recruiting let's call it largely influencing. So we are all to believe that it is pure concidence that this kid trains with IZZY STYLE and is now rumored to be transferring to Montini.

I hope it's not true because if it is it's a sad state of affairs for IL wrestling. I can't see how it is good for IL wrestling on a whole for the rich to keep getting richer.

It has been stated by the "in the know" Montini supporters/friends of the program/busters that the people that Montini would most actively be trying to get to transfer would be Robertson and Stenberg. Thats straight from the horses mouth.

If Niles West is a public school...wouldn't he have to sit out a year??

I understand what you are all saying, and ya it seems a little suspicious. But, Robertson (and Stenberg) both have trained with IZZY STYLE for a few years. They train at Montini with Montini kids. It is very possible that, through this training, they become closer to the Montini kids and to Israel, and start to have the desire to transfer because they feel that being at Montini is a better situation for them.
This is not recruiting....it is using resources well, but it is not recruiting. Some kids just see things and want to be a part of that. I mean...state championship team, great coaches, great workout partners....I dont think it would take any convincing to get a kid to jump into that situation. Plus, in the future, it will help him with recruiting to a college and what not

Ryan Dix from GBN transfered to Montini and did sit out a year because he did not move. I do not know the perticulars behind Elliot Hudson or Alex Saunders on why they did not have to sit out but the IHSA approved their situation so they must have followed the IHSA tranfer guidelines.
