I don't know about that Jaguar. Heros! By that statement then any wrestler that does not wrestle for his home school district is not a hero. That just about eliminates the entire CCL, SCC, ESCC and any other private school. It also eliminates any of those wrestlers from gaining your respect. I am willing to bet that you really did not mean it that way.

How many kids want to be on a winning team. All of them do. It is as easy as that. I went to college with a guy from Mahomet Seymor(forgive my spelling if this is an error) and he told me there is nothing better than to be on a winning team. The exictement, the attitude of the school and kids around the school really is a great experiece. My school team was a joke and the other kids made fun of the wrestlers and there was never any recognition of any kind of your success. So can you blame him if he wants to be on a good team? I know I can't.

Never get to see what kids will do at their local school????????? First of all, who cares what you get to see. It is not about you. Secondly, there are 17000 high school wrestlers in IL of which approx. 80% go to the same public school for 4 years. That's nearly 14,000 wrestlers. Approx. 20% go to the same private school for 4 years. The amount of wrestlers who transfer during their high school career is minute (less than 1/2 of 1%). Just because a couple of kids transfer to Montini or Sandburg or Glenbard North, doesn't mean the sky is falling!

You're right. What's the literary tool called when you exaggerate to make a point? (Hyperbole, I think). We all have our own perspectives, and I am not willing to say that one is better than another on some of these issues. There are many unique factors that come to play in making these decisions. From my perspective, I had many people over the years ask me why I didn't take my kids to Martinez or here or there (not to pick on Martinez). It was tempting at times, but we stayed put. Frankly, my older son wouldn't have wanted to go. He was committed to our school and our program, warts and all. He scoffed at the notion of being "elite" and took pleasure in beating the "elite" guys he faced. I have often thought about the fact that there would have been a hole at our school if we left. I was very involved and drove carloads of kids whose parents either could not or would not take them to off-season tournaments over the years. Having a national caliber wrestler in the room elevated the entire room and inspired them. If he had gone to a more prestigious and elite program, he may have done better himself (in folkstyle anyway), but it would have left a gaping hole in the local program. I am not saying he is the best thing since sliced bread, and he was not the only wrestler in the program who was of that caliber. Guys like Billy Malone and Matt Lee inspired and pushed my son the same way he inspired and pushed the guys who came after them. If all of those guys left for greener pastures, the local program would dwindle and die. I appreciate guys like Blanton and Bybee who stayed in their local schools. Both school programs developed one or two other guys who qualified for state who might not have reached theat level but for the stars staying home. That's how I see it. Mock me if you wish (Matador alert). I am sticking to my guns on this one.

Banking on a college scholarship through wrestling or any other sport is a bad bet. If someone wants to go to Montini to wrestle, that is great, my kid did it and I was happy for him. However, the way to get through college is academics not athletics. Look at the issues Burke is having at NIU, how is that working out right now? Name any kid that got injured and could no longer wrestle. Many of those don't work out either. However, those that have the grades and the academic motivation land on their feet far more often than those whose sole motivation is wrestling. I have a clue and a law degree because of that. How about you?

He was living with his mother on the east and moved to his father's house on the west side.

Im not saying he isnt going to study or get good grades. Actually didnt say that at all. So take it easy Peter Francis Geraci. I was pointing out how a kid who gets good grades at lets say ummmm Niles West(hypothetical) and has a pretty good career wrestling wise, but doesnt get enough exposure, GETS into college, but has to walk on to a wrestling team. Now take that kid and place him with Montini's schedule i think his chances of getting a scholarship have nearly doubled. Im not saying he is only wrestling for a scholarship. But lets face it some kids want to wrestle D-1, maybe that is his motivation. But I never said anything about this kids grades or anything, and lets get real here, if he transfers to Montini it isnt for the education! So Wake up chief.
