AAU World Championship 6/25-6/28

Here is the link to the AAU Ironman (three styles) World Championships held at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, June 25 to June 28. Great tournament in a great wrestling facility - site of the 2005 & 2010 NCAA DII National Championships.

I understand getting matches over the summer. What I don't understand is why anyone would drive to Nebraska to get maybe 3 or 4 other guys in their weight class. I looked at last years results and see no point in anyone on our club team making that drive. They would get more matches out of a 10 dollar weekend tournament.

It is what it is...I have no idea about last years brackets...I know Mario told me they are really trying to boost the tournament up...is there a better three style tournament that week?

I'm not trying to shoot down the tournament I just don't see why it would be financially feasible to send kids down there when they had a lot of weight classes last year that only had 2 entries COMBINED for some weight classes counting all three styles. Gas has really hit some teams budgets and why drive hundreds of miles to wrestle the same amount of matches that you could drive 15 miles to a saturday tournament for.

I hear you. Gas is changing everything. Me and the kid would pile in the van in the olden days and go out to a national tournament. That was before $4.30 gas. I guess gas is going to force local tournaments to get better.

Years ago when I mowed lawns as a kid I recall giving a guy 30 cents for a gallon of gas in my gas can and I got change in return. Oh well...

I think you are right on about the local tourneys. Some schools may have to rule out the trips to the Ironman or The Clash. That would be shame but it is what it is. Perhaps GBN will return to the Dvorak.

On the other hand, I see your beloved Caravan is heading up to Rochester to give it a go. Make sure to get a picture standing next to the giant ear of corn.
