I think the Dual should be up north, since all of the best wrestling schools are in the Chicago area. It always seems that the IHSA wants to move everything as far away as possible from Chicago. The same goes with football, too.
The downstate teams are not on par with the Chicago schools, so I see no reason to have the tournament down south, where there's so much mediocrity among their schools compared to the Chicago area schools like Providence, Sandburg, St. Rita, and Montini. |

Moline has a great facility for this event. They should have kept it there. The three class system probably makes the IHSA think they need a bigger facility. However, if they staggered the classes and mat times, this could have been done in Moline over 2 days with the third place duals being run simultaneously and the championship duals being run simultaneous shortly thereafter rather than a one day event. They could start the event on Friday afternoon and end it Saturday afternoon. Make the weight allowance an additional 2 lbs on day one and 2 more lbs. on the second day because it is the week after individual state and cutting for this event may be difficult after individual state.

You do realize that parts of the state are over 6 hours from Chicago and Moline right? No matter how bad southern teams are, a team will qualify from that sectional and have to drive that far on a school bus.
Bloomington and Champaign seem much more fair since they are more central locations in the entire state. |

I am from the suburbs and it isn't like Bloomington is that far away. The suburban schools are not the only ones that are in the state series so why should they be in our backyard? Bloomington seems like a good central local for the tournament.

24 Teams???
Um an interesting note from this article....
"This will be the first year that the Illinois High School Association moves from two classes to three as 24 qualifying teams will take part in the state series on Feb. 28." According to this quote 8 teams will qualify for the State Tournament from each division. I assumed it would be only 12 teams (4 teams from each Division) |

Bloomington is a good location. I-55, I-74 and I-39 all intersect right there. But, the Wharton Field House in Moline is an awesome facility...
