can the hawkeyes get more dominate with another brands

http://themat.com/section.php?sectio...rticleID=19577

USA Wrestling’s Assistant National Freestyle Coach and Head Resident Coach Terry Brands has notified USA Wrestling that he accepted a position as assistant wrestling coach with the University of Iowa today.

Brands will remain with USA Wrestling through October 31 before officially assuming his new job. Brands will coach a group of U.S. freestyle wrestlers on a tour to Yakutsk, Russia next week.

“USA Wrestling is grateful to Terry and Michelle Brands for their contributions and service to USA Wrestling,” said USA Wrestling Executive Director Rich Bender. “I wish them the best of luck in all of their future endeavors.”

Brands, a two-time World champion freestyle wrestler and 2000 Olympic bronze medalist, joined the USA Wrestling national staff in April 2005. He has coached the resident freestyle athletes at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, including 2006 World Champion Bill Zadick and 2008 Olympic Champion Henry Cejudo. Brands has served on the coaching staff for the U.S. teams that have competed at the last three World Championships as well as the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China.

“My heart has come together on a lengthy decision that I have considered since the culmination of the Olympic Games,” said Brands. “The program at USA Wrestling is headed in the right direction. It is time for me to step away and let the new national coach work with his resident coach going into the future.”

In his new position, he will be working along with his twin brother Tom Brands, the head coach at Iowa, and returning to the coaching staff at his alma mater for the first time since 2000.

He has extensive college coaching experience. Brands was the head coach at the Univ. of Tennessee-Chattanooga for three years prior to joining the USA Wrestling staff. He also served in assistant coaching posts at Montana-State Northern, the Univ. of Nebraska and the Univ. of Iowa.

“It has always been on my mind,” said Brands about returning to Iowa to coach. “My family and I are going to do our best to instill great values in young men. My motto is to outwork the world and never compromise my integrity. The Univ. of Iowa provides the opportunity for young men to win Olympic gold medals. It is exciting to me. The staff and the administration at the Univ. of Iowa have the same kind of passion to instill that in their student athletes.”

Brands is committed to continuing his leadership role in the development of freestyle wrestling in the United States.

“I will work with USA Wrestling and its national office and will do whatever I can to help,” said Brands. “I have talked to (National Freestyle Coach) Zeke Jones and told him that I will do whatever I can to help him and the program. The goal is to be the best freestyle country in the world. In my opinion, the collegiate environment provides a lot of that potential.”

Brands talked about his experiences working with USA Wrestling and how it has shaped him as a coach and a person.

“I am not anywhere near satisfied with what I wanted to accomplish there,” said Brands. “I learned a lot of wrestling, understand the sport better and understand myself better. I matured as a person. I feel real good about the experience I had there.”

This has been rumored for a long time now, and has finally come true. Could be very interesting. A part of me thinks this is gonna be awesome for Iowa, and for USA wrestling. Terry Brands might bring with him a lot of talented wrestlers for the Hawkeye Wrestling Club. Having another solid freestyle training ground again could only benefit USA wrestling, along with Kevin Jackson now being in charge of the Sunkist Kids.
The other part of me, though, is very curious to see how the Brands brother work together. In college, they couldnt live together because they fought so much. For a long time period, they could not work together for the same reason (presumably). So, it will be interesting - sure they have both grown up quite a bit, but both of them are used to being in charge and doing things their own way. It will be interesting to see how well they mesh and can work together.
The Cyclone fan in me is hoping that, for at least 2 years, they dont work very well together!

So it is official, Terry brands, Henry Cejudo and Steve Mocco are off to Iowa. Those two along with mike ZADICK and Doug Schwab make 4 2008 olympians training at one school. Don't forget about the slew of other contenders starting with Jared Frayer. NCAA wrestling is again facing the black clowd of Iowa hawkeyes that seem to hang in the background of everyones conciousness. This black clowd leads to tenative 18 year old boys hesitating to the wrestlers in the black and gold with an determined. Brands coach in their corner, check that, two determined brands coaches salivating at the mouth for total domination.
These perceptions leads to an increased confidence and expectations for Iowa wrestlers as they slowly morph into what people view them as: trained killers that the brand brothers specifically sculpted. It becomes a self fulfilling destiny for their competitors. This does not imply that the Iowa hawkeyes don't deserve what they get afterall they work their butts off. Nor does it imply they couldn't win without this wave of confidence and by the aura of the brands brothers.

Terry brands is off to a school where he can live without the politics that are so abundant at the otc. Its not really suprising that he makes this move as Terry Brands might be the worse beaucrat of all time. He doesn't like to play games nor kiss ***. It is against his nature. God bless him.

With him goes his faithful following of Mocco and Cejudo who were the most successful of the Olympic freestyle team in 2008. This leads a baren otc that Zeke Jones takes over.

Rich Bender, the president of USA wrestling is in the buisness of producing Olympic gold medalists. Rich benders problem, or a symptom of it, is that one of his biggest assets is moving away from freestyle and into NCAA wrestling where the politics aren't nearly as thick. Making matters worse is that He takes along loyal disciples who happen to be Americas best freestylers.

If there were to be only one truth in this world that I know it is that Terry brands more than loves wrestling. He lives his life like it were a wrestling match, intense, pure and full of his free will. Sometimes this is to his detriment as life isn't a wrestling match. These are insignificant details to Terry Brands. He pushes forward away from the otc and back into college wrestling.

At Iowa you can expect Terry Brands goals to be to create a dominating dynasty that sets him up for the next big ten or big 12 head coach opening. At which time he will leave to have something of his own. Afterall this is his wrestling match and his free will, not his brothers.

You wonder when Terry does have a program of his own that the collegiate wrestling nation as a whole won't breathe a collective sigh of relief when this happens. Afterall at that time you will have the brands brothers competing against each other and splitting top recruits that are likely to train for a Brands brother.

Nice, thanks for posting that!!!
It makes me wonder how long Terry will stay at Iowa. Obviously he wants to get back into college coaching, and would be a more than worthy candidate for any head coaching opening. So, if a big one opens up next summer, does Terry take it??

Dominate?

This particular grammatical faux pas is pretty pervasive on here... but it makes my skin crawl. Sorry to get all Georgie Grammar on y'all but folks, PLEASE...

"Dominate" is a verb. A wrestler can dominate his opponent.

"Dominant" is the associated adjective. A dominant wrestler will dominate his opponent.

A team can DOMINATE... but a team cannot BE dominate.

Deep breath... I feel better.

This particular gaffe is so widely used on here I fear may start to influence people towards thinking it's the correct usage.
