Maybe Joe Mordini (tri county champ @98 lbs) from RHS (class of '75) should come out of retirement and kick my *&# again so you can be happy and we can save the little guy!
Yes he should....Joe, are you out there?

gentleman

Some of you are making the OPRF victory at Conant the biggest thing that has ever happened. I am happy that made your season but here is a fact that OPRF and many other schools could not throw into the pot. From 152lbs up Providences lineup was completely shaken up because of football. It was so rattled that they did not even enter a heavyweight into Conant! I thought I would just throw that out there for people to sit on because whether people like to admit or not that is a big deal but I am happy that OPRF got their Chirstmas gift because that is what i is a gift because head to head I think the Celtics would be victorious by at least 10 points

Twist, As a wrestling historian, . . . . can you tell us if there was much discussion and complaints when the 96lb weight class was eliminated years back ? If seems that as young men become larger over the course of time, the sport should move with it. Did the 80lbers complain that their opportunities were gone back then ? Wouldn't this be a similar situation if the weight classes are revamped so that 108 or 109 is the first class ?

I don't see it as young men are getting larger. I know we have been having problems finding young men who can compete at teh 103 lb weight class it seems that they are in between either they are two small as freshman or they would need to suck to make 103 as upperclassman. I think the 103 lb weight class is the perfect starting weight for high school young men!!

There is a serious side to this discussion that could be anlayzed...

Comparing wrestlers every 20 years might be a start

Gut feeling is a bad way to evaluate it...

Are kids bigger today? how much bigger?
What is the goal? to promote the sport for more participation?
Does HS wrestling have a responsibility to support the college wrestling
programs?
What are best behaviors to drive to our kids? too much weight loss too much weight gain?
do we owe the little guys a chance? what about the big boys that are over weight? Got quite a few that struggle breaking 300 by me... Can we tween them thru best practices and incent them by giving them a chance too?

I'd like Mr. Twister to start a serious dialogue on the subject for sure...

but i'd like to see it as a Fresh/Soph weight only and start at 112
conversely make 300 a fresh/soph weight only and incent kids to move up or down to get in synch with college range...

i've seen too much abuse at 103 for upper classman and pure hell for big boys starting out... lets drive the right behavior with our kids....

AJP, there's a huge difference between a small kid and the kids you speak of "having trouble busting 300". I have yet to see a 300 pound h.s. kid that isn't overweight - to be blunt. Yes, humans continue to get bigger as a specie through the years and yes, I think they do occasionally need to look at the weight classes and adjust if necessary. But, not eliminate any weight class. JMO...
