Maybe in college but not in HS. Boys still grow through HS, some into the college years. The allowance is there for health reasons and it's a good rule. Some that are in-between the weight class will be able to drop to the lower class with the allowance but better that than require the kid who is doing all he can to make the weight (safely) and then hits a growth spurt.
There is no reason to make the sport any tougher on the body than it already is.

Hahahaha I actually laughed out loud! WHAT WRESTLER ALIVE WOULDN'T BE IN FAVOR OF A WEIGHT ALLOWANCE???

Again I understand the reason behind the weight allowance is growth but of course you will have others who abuse the real reason behind it and use it to cut more weight. Just a simple disagreement but I see both goods and bads to the weight allowance.

Mat side weigh-ins are the best way to control the weight cutting, but it will never happen, weight cutting is too much a way of life in wrestling.

It's part of the culture.

Hey Genius

I am glad that you mentioned that OPRF did not have a 103lber becasue PCHS did not have a hvywt, but you failed to read my whole post which stated that Providence had a different lineup from 152 and above. That will offset any points your 103lber would of gotten. They were in football playoffs which obvioulsy OPRF does not have to worry about very often, but here is a news flash. Schools that go far into the IHSA Football playoffs tend to start off a lot slower than schools that do not because many of the football players are wrestlers and they need to cut weight and get in shape for wrestling and doing that in less than a week is next to impossible.

Dondo, can't tell for sure if you're "tongue and cheek" here, but my kid didn't even register last year when he took the test. He doesn't cut any weight and eats anything he wants. He's just one of those high metabolism/low body fat types. They couldn't get an accurate measurement after several tries. I'm not sure what he registered this year. How does that work btw? He'll probably do frosh-soph State this year at the 97 pound (+5 pound allowance) weight class. Since they really don't have a 97 pound weight class, will he be able to participate at State having wrestled 103 all year? Sorry, for my ignorance on the subject...

AJP-
Why wouldn't Pete Marx from Conant have certified? He weighed 260 each year at state.
